Last Thursday was the last day at school... a very nice morning at school shared with parents, teachers and the children...and a lot of cries for the wonderful last assembly SCIS put in place. It has been 4 and 1/2 great months for Leslie in Shanghai...and he will miss his friends for the holidays... So Thursday was raining like hell...and on Friday morning...I woke up Leslie with a surprise....we were going to Disneyland in Hong Kong at lunch time...the smile went big straight on. So here are few things about Disneyland Hong kong. I did Orlando in 1994 and Paris in 1999. This one is clearly smaller, but with a 6 years old kid, it has the advantage to allow to do every ride before Leslie get tired. Leslie even went on SpaceMountain. He admitted ... read more

Today was a great day! We started off getting the tube from just outside our hostel to Lantau Island. (Thankfully the streetwise Pea was there to guide us through the maze of coloured tubes!!) We arrived on Lantau and got cable cars at Ngong Ping. We floated over all the mountains and the views were totally amazing!! Pics to come! We then visited the Giant Buddha which is literally massive and sits on top of a mountain. We visited a Chinese tea shop which was lovely! We all sat down very quietly and a Chinese lady named Summer served us all some Phoenix (Fung Wong) Tea. We also had a 'Wife Cake' (requested by the greedy Jan AKA Anna) which was a pastry filled with almonds and cocunut. The tea was served in tiny little cups ... read more

On the second day we got up at a most disagreeable time, 7:30am if memory serves, with the purpose of getting to Lantau island to see the giant Buddha. We made our way to the Hong Kong Mass Transit Underground Railway, or MTR. It was awesome. It's not often that i, or indeed anyone, will wax lyrical about a tube system but this was spectacular; glass walls between the platform and the rails, mobile phone coverage throughout the system, and toilets that don't reek of cockney piss. Worth the flight to HK alone. About half an hour later we arrived on Lantau island in the town? of Tung Chung, a very strange place in itself. All of the domestic housing is in enormous tower blocks which must house 5000 people each, and there were about ... read more

the tour guide told us the night before that we would meet at 8am at the hotel lobby. after we passed at the immigration (again), we travelled by train going to hongkong. we reached the kowloon side exactly after 45 mins., we visited avenue of stars, then mid level of victoria peak. although repulse bay was included in our itinerary, the tour guide told us to skip the place as we we were stucked in traffic from victoria peak.. as we were in a group tour like what ive said in my previous blog, we were forced to go to the jewellery shop, at first no one seemed interested (everybody was excited to go to disneyland) but then, when we arrived, almost all of us in the group bought one anyway hehe..after that, twas disneyland next. ... read more

Next morning we had an early wake up call, after some repacking we were on our way back to Hong Kong airport, only a 10-minute drive away. We checked in at the Cathay pacific First class check in counters, and then went to ‘The Pier’ one of the 2 lounges Cathay Pacific offers. Here we had a great sit down breakfast in the restaurant, and then spent time catching up on Emails and just relaxing. The lounge was very quiet, and a little dark and gloomy for our liking, but very tasteful and luxurious nevertheless. All too soon it was time to board CX504, our 747-400 bound for Tokyo Narita airport. Once on board we settled into seats 2A and 4A, and were offered Champagne prior to take off. The cabin was quite full, but the ... read more

Day 45, Disneyland, Hong Kong, China The gigantic new Hong Kong International Airport is on Lantau Island, just west of Hong Kong Island. We had several hours before our evening flight to Singapore and considered shopping in the HUNDREDS of stores in the terminal, but the Island is also home to Hong Kong Disneyland, so with a unanimous vote we headed there. After two quick train rides, we entered the Asian home of Mickey and Minnie and were pleased to see all the familiar surroundings, but surprised that it wasn’t crowded with people. We easily made our way to Matt’s favorite ride and helped defeat the evil Emperor Zurg, and since there wasn’t a line when we exited, we went right back in and rode Buzz Lightyear again!!! The park is much, much smaller than ours ... read more

Two of the American wedding guests and I headed out to Lantau to ride the Ngong Ping 360 and see the giant Buddha. This was a great day trip. The cable car was the longest I had ever been on, and was very accessible from Hong Kong Island. We spent a good few hours running around the top and then got in line to catch the return car before it got too late (and we got stuck in a line to get the last cars back).... read more

We had this planned for awhile. Going to see the Great Buddha and riding the skyrail. When we woke up, it had been really foggy. We weren't sure it we would be able to see anything in the mountains, but Sarah and I went anyway. When I came up to the podium to buy my ticket for the cable car, I asked how long the hike on the way back down took. The girl laughed(as if that was an absurd question) then said 2 1/2 hours. Once we got to the top, we ate lunch then walked to the Giant Buddha to take a peak. After that, we took a walk around Wisdom Path, then Sarah decided to walk to the top of Lantau Peak and back down the other side. Not thinking correctly, I said ... read more
