Vous lx00avez compris, mon plan a foiré ... read more

KAMPOT - April 9 - 10 The Italian dude and I were lucky in that we ended up getting a shared taxi with 5 people not 7 for $5. The cab driver said that he there would only be 3 in the back seats (including us) and 2 in the front. And we made sure that he understood that if he stopped for more people and filled the car up more that we would not pay him upon arrival in Kampot. He agreed to those terms and we were on our merry comfortable way:) Kampot is a little riverside town with little going on. The one thing I was excited for was the cafe, Epic Cafe!! Ya! I finally had my cake I had been craving for awhile. It wasn't the best cake I ever ... read more

I had heard that Sihanoukville has a reputation of being a bit of the wild west of Cambodia and didn't attract too much for that reason. I just wanted a couple of days of doing nothing after all the restless sightseeing and travelling I had been doing in Cambodia. I had heard that there was a lovely island called Bamboo island off the coast so I was planning to go there rather than staying in the Sihanoukville. However, even if I took the very early bus and was in Sihanoukville by mid-day I soon realised my schedule was too tight for such a trip as there was only one connecting boat a day. So I was stuck in Sihanoukville and its more average beaches. The motorbike driver kindly took me to a totally different place I ... read more

Phnom Penn bus station takes chaos to a whole new level, we went there to get our bus out of town and were met with bedlem from people, motos, cyclos, buses and taxis all competing for a tiny piece of road. A man with a megaphone and a bloke with a whistle, try, without hope, to organise things. Somehow, only one hour late we managed to escape the city. We were held up on route by a truck that lost a wheel after it hit a bridge. No emergency services here so you just wait until the locals sort things out. Kampot the riverside town is the capital of Kampot province, a mixture of local and crumbling colonial architecture. Its a stop for people wanting to see the abondoned Bokor Hill station or the old ... read more

Sua S'day So we've just spent the better part of two days trekking through Cambodia, basically going form the top left hand bit of the map, down to the bottom right. Brett, get a grown up to help you, if you battle. (Quick apologies, the internet cafe we're sitting in seems to work off Commodore 64's, and no functionality for pictures is on hand. As most of you are here just for the pretty pictures, stop reading now. There are none) Another side note i'd like to raise is that th Angkor complex is the coolest thing i have ever seen, surpassing even such highlights as Brett jumping off a roof holding an umbrella, Nicole de Fleurites breasts, and anything else really. They were AWESOME. We spent an afternoon in the excellent little town of Kampong ... read more

yup thats the term befitting of that very endearing small town. so diametrically opposite from the cities we've set foot on so far, where it reeks of the customary attractions and visits, kampot was a welcome breath of fresh air. kampot was in a most dischevelled state, as if still reeling from the affliction inflicted from the pol pot days of old. the towns of kampot and kep were savagedly razed and ravaged to the point of disrepair, that the most sophisticated piece of infrastructure the town boasts of is a half-baked roundabout, or at least a decent attempt at one. largely spontaneous, the tenure at kampot was in many ways incidental given we decided to ditch sihanoukville plans in phnom penh. having settled down the enchanting thing was actually the palpable dearth of the foreign ... read more

Well, we waited until after the New Year before we left Phnom Phen. We decided to take a bus to Kampot to see what it's like. It's a small town about 20 min off the southern coast which is famous for it's pepper. It was a five hour bus ride through bumpy dirt roads and we made it. We stayed at a nice place on the river for a couple of nights. The sunsets over the river were beautiful and there were about 20 little puppies running around from three different litters. They said I could take one home, but there was no room in my back pack so I had to leave them all there. On the second night we met a couple of retired men from Canada and they told us about a relaxing ... read more
