Well, we waited until after the New Year before we left Phnom Phen. We decided to take a bus to Kampot to see what it's like. It's a small town about 20 min off the southern coast which is famous for it's pepper. It was a five hour bus ride through bumpy dirt roads and we made it. We stayed at a nice place on the river for a couple of nights. The sunsets over the river were beautiful and there were about 20 little puppies running around from three different litters. They said I could take one home, but there was no room in my back pack so I had to leave them all there. On the second night we met a couple of retired men from Canada and they told us about a relaxing place across the river. We ended up liking the place so much we moved over there for a night. We got a hut which was floating on the river which we liked so much we decided to stay five nights in total. We really enjoyed just relaxing on the river every day. It was definetly one of the coolest places that we've travelled to on

Now we're in Sihanoukville which is on the coast. Yesterday we took a shared taxi here, which meant that there were 7 Khmers (cambodians) and us 2. This is in a car the size of a corolla and in really bad condition! We were squished in the back with two other adults, there was a family of three in the passengers seat (with a 5 year old), and there were two grown men in the drivers seat. And the car was a standard!!! It was crazy! the guy was driving with another man squished beside the door. There was no air con, so we had to have the windows all the way down on a dusty road and we were still sweating. Then about half way there the kid in the front got sick all over the dash. So after that we got to smell hot sour puke. At least the drive was only one and a half hours. But.... as soon as we got here we realised that we left our money belt with passports, credit cards, and cash back in our safety deposit box in Kampot. So today Matt is in another shared taxi on his way back there to get our stuff, then has to take another one to come back! Poor guy!
