having left the extremely quiet and well organised terminal 5 at heathrow, where there's never a queue in sight nor are there any flight announcements (until final calls as i found out!) i stepped out 9 hours later into an enormous sauna. The heat is always so overwhelming the first moment you get off the airconditioned plane and i'd completely forgotten how hot it is out here! the plane must have only been a seventh full which despite really appreciating the 3 seats to stretch out and actually get some sleep on, i was a little surprised that the large plane hadn't been sent to Spain or the States to pick up the ever waiting passengers , stranded from the volcanic ash fiasco. Kampala is a busy dynamic city and although nothing really to see, it ... read more

March 13th - Last day in Uganda Almost everyone was ready for the 7am leave from Fort Portal to Kampala. Scott was his usual ten minutes late, but John did even better finally getting onto the bus at 7.20. We had two extra passengers - Pastor Bosco who was going to visit some of ‘his’ children in a township in Kampala, and the manager of the Rwenzori Travellers Inn. A journey that we expected to be four hours took an hour and a half longer due to the road being repaired and more speed bumps being installed. Having arrived at the Lugogo cricket stadium in time for lunch, our start time for the ‘big match’ had to be delayed. CWB and guests - John, Charles, Fred and Mackenzie (Uganda ladies player) took the field against a ... read more

My 5 year old daughter Luna and I spent a month in Uganda. We had the most wonderful experience, I’d like to share a few of these experiences with you: 1 Luna was delighted with our first days, as while I washed clothes outside in a bath tub, she found a three legged cat and a pig sleeping outside our room. A few monkeys on the roof and a goat which had been bought for a wedding but as it had too much personality everyone wanted the goat to stay alive. 2 We took a matatu (shared taxi) through tea plantations and papyrus to arrive in a town called Jinja where we then walked to the Nile in order to take a boat to its source where on an island we saw a monitor lizard. On ... read more

CWB UgandaCrew begin work in Kampala Saturday 27 February After breakfast and a quick stop into a nearby shopping centre for bottled water and the opportunity to change money into local currency, we all headed to the national sports centre in Kampala. Here we met national cricketer Fred who showed us around the cricket ground which included a wonderful traditional scoreboard. It may not have the high tech approach of Lords or the SCG but the relaxed attitude of the people milling around certainly gave it some soul. We were due to go through our itinerary and talk about any other matters with John and tour leader Scott but beforehand had an opportunity for an impromptu cricket match with some local children who happened to be handy. It was great to see them suddenly appear ... read more

The crossing into Kenya is the epitome of efficiency and I emerge the other side into a truck stop full of hassle and haggling. As I poke my head in to inspect potential transport south - a battered pick-up - I am stunned to discover a fellow traveller from way back on the Egypt-Sudan ferry, a burly old South African, L, with his majestic long white beard that brings much delight to local children. I am very surprised and pleased to see such an unexpected friendly face, having assumed all my fellow passengers from the boat were long gone. I am less pleased when L gleefully informs me that a mutual acquaintance of ours from Khartoum, another South African, had his motorbike shot from under him by bandits on this stretch of road a few weeks ... read more

Well the first Bavubuka Passion Project although completed is really just the beginning of many new and exciting things... This last week in Kampala really revealed the most to me; both in mind and spirit. After three weeks of go go go there was a day or two of much needed reflection, some problem solving, and an overview of results and future endeavours This last week I did some final training with a few of the young women of Bavubuka and some youth, did some yoga workshops thanks to our friends at YYOGA Highgate in Vancouver, BC, trained 25 single refugee mothers, visited an orphanage who is doing some amazing work with over 200 children, and planted a mango tree on the Bavubuka property as a sign of gratitude from the Passion team and a reminder ... read more

Well we are back in Kampala after a very intense filled few days!!! What would have taken 7 or 8 hours took us 5.5 to drive thanks to a driver who was aiming for record transit time. Everyone napped on the ride up north but I on the other hand forced myself to stay awake. Partly because I was sitting in a middle seat with no head rest and partly because I didn’t want to miss anything When we left Kampala were we told that it was about 5C hotter in Gulu as we made our journey we could feel the temperature rising and our bottled water becoming hotter and hotter. Although Kampala is considered modern it is still lined with dusty roads bodas (motorcycle taxis) cars trucks and people. As we moved out of the ... read more

Well I have arrived safe and sound! After an amazing evening on the town of London walking the streets, having some sit down time and getting on the Eye of London with Ms. Sarah we had a quick sleep and I boarded a bus and the tube to Heathrow early in the AM where I made my flight 20 mins before departing (that's a record !) So after 18 hours of flight and 2 days in journey I arrived at Entebbe airport at 11p last night where I was shuttled in a line of travellers (wearing a turtleneck as I was going from -4C in London to 24C in Entebbe yuck!), paid $50 for my visa, and was greeted by Maughan and her friend Twiggy. Maughan rented us a guest house room in Kampala where the ... read more

Jan 21  Day 6  We had a lazy day today. We chilled at the camp most of the morning, I caught up on here sitting on the spectacular deck. Then we headed off to Kampala the capital of Uganda to do some shopping then pick up some more passangers tonight. After we got to camp we set up, Maydeena and I went for a dip in the pool which was about the size of a hot tub. Then we all hung out exchanged emails and then started dinner.  We had cottage/sheppards pie, which Tan made and it was delicious. Our 3 other passangers arrived later all ozzies a couple and one solo guy. The couple got here late so we didn't talk to them much but the kid got there around dinner time. He seems prett ... read more
