Day 3: We had to leave early from the camp as we were to catch a flight. Before that however, I woke up to bees buzzing in the back ground. At first I thought it was noise from a radio, so I unzipped the tent to see where the ruckus was and then realized the buzzing of the bees.I looked around expecting to see a swarm but to no avail. I rezipped the tent to have my amazing filtered coffee that the Maasai brought to me earlier , and got dressed quickly to go on the bee hunt. Walking around, as I drew nearer to some trees the buzzing got louder. I was , as I said, expecting a swarm so I tiptoed ever so carefully up to the tree. As I was getting closer the ... read more

Day 2: I heard whistles during the night. Eerie. Found out later that the whistles were to beckon the Maasai warriors if there is a problem. I had a whistle as well. Did not blow it. EVER. It kept getting louder and louder, on the hour. Woke up at 6AM to a rustling at my door. "Hello sir" Hello sir" . "Yes I said please come in" promptly the warrior set down a tray with filtered coffee and cookies as a welcome morning gesture. What a beginning. 7AM we hopped into the Land Rover and darted off to see the Lions at sunrise. Out and about we went into Lion territory. Deep grass and hidden areas. We past an old Lion kill where we saw the ribs of a Wildebeast lying in the meadow with thousands ... read more

In one day and out of Nairobi the next. No time to visit the city. Perhaps on the way back.It was an exciting day. We did not know what to expect. We arrived at Wilson airport, for our short-hopper and were promptly met with a boarding pass. Ushered through security, though a waiting room, directly onto the tarmac, weaving in and out through parked planes, until we saw our little Cessna. Peter, our pilot greeted us. We flew for 40 minutes at 9500 feet across the tundra in Kenya. As in the movies, I was looking down, hoping to see herds of animals. Migrations maybe. We were to high up. So I snapped up some pics of the distant views as well as the views of the surrounding, changing eye-catching vistas. What a surreal feeling, finally ... read more

General info: Currency: Kenyan shilling Cost of living: 1,5l bottle of water 75S, Elephant Orphanage enterance fee 500S, coffee in hotel cafeteria 250S Kenya so far has been known to me for its world's best long distance runners. Capital city name comes from massai name of the river Enkare Nairobi which means cool water. It is the most diversified country in regards to ethnology and languages in whole Africa. Conflicts among groups are its main problem. Official languages are swahili and english. The view of the streets says everything about financial and development situation there. Obviously it's not very well. Main turistic attractions are wild animals parks. Also there is an elephants orphanage, created due to poaching of adult elephants by ivory seekers. My visit was mainly dedicated to visit that orphanage and as well neighbouring ... read more

EAST AFRICAN ADVENTURES: Yes I survived 2.5 months in East Africa, cycling 4000 kms around Lake Victoria, through Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda before re-entering Kenya from the west, and from Uganda. After 1 day of rest, I flew back to Tanzania in company with a friend, Brian, who I first met on the Silk Route in 2014. The Tanzanian return was so that we could attempt the climb of Mt Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa at 19,341 feet. We were successful in our climb, taking 7 days to reach the summit, in darkness at 5.55am. The temperature was -7c and we had been climbing for 7 hours, leaving the campsite at 11pm, after having had only 2 hours sleep in 24 hours. Following this successful climb, we flew onto Zanzibar, an island located off ... read more

The next day was our final day in Kenya, and our flight left that evening, however it wasn’t until 11PM so we had the whole day to do things in. We had arranged for a safari vehicle to come at 3:30 for a safari in Nairobi National Park and drop us off to the airport in the evening, however we had the morning to do things in so after a leisurely start in comparison to previous days (alarm set for 8 am) and a leisurely breakfast, we arranged for a taxi to the safari walk so we would have a few hours there. The Safari Walk is located next to the main entrance to Nairobi National Park which is also the headquarters for the Kenyan Wildlife Service, and was only about five minutes away from my ... read more

After going around the Safari Walk, the taxi then picked us up at the time we had already arranged, and took us back to the hotel where we had a late lunch and picked up our bags. We had arranged for a safari minibus to pick us up at 3:30 to take us on a final few hours of safari in Nairobi National Park. It came nice and promptly, so we headed off slightly early. As we were driving down the driveway of the hotel, the guide suddenly pointed out a small snake in the bush by the side of the road which was a baby Green Mamba (probably Eastern based on distribution). It soon disappeared out of sight into the bush, however it was a very cool thing to see, and I’m pleased we saw ... read more

I left Warsaw in the early afternoon of the 6th and flew to Nairobi via Dubai. As my transit would suggest, my flight was with Emirates which I was quite pleased about since Emirates is by far my favourite airline. Anyone who has been on Emirates will appreciate the wonders of ‘ICE’ particularly as I was on one of the new 777s with the extra-large TV screens. The flight was slightly delayed, so we got to Dubai a bit late, but this wasn’t a huge problem due to the fact that we had a 12 hour layover in Dubai. There were flights with shorter layovers, but these were a few hundred PLN extra each which adds up into the thousands (1000 PLN is about $250 US) with the family of four, so we took the slightly ... read more
