After the "Peak" we rested a day or so and then ventured out to Lantau Island ( the big Buddah) via... the ferry, bus, cablecar. Once we arrived we watched some acrobats perforrm for the crowd. They were so fast that I only caught one of the guys feet. (See the Pic) I was so hungary that I decided to eat and not wait for everyone to catch up so I ducked into an Arab eatery and had a Giro mixed with Lamb and Chicken and hot sauce. Hmmmmmmmm. As we moved forward in the day I saw these HUGE ciggarettes. ( Again the pics). ooops. sorry they were incense burning. Anyhow the smoke was intense and I had to move away from the smell because I was suffocating. I just do not get why the Asians have ... read more
Well, In the morning we promptly got up and went to eat Juck. Pronounced jauk or Jouuuuck. Okay so I can't speak Cantonese but it starts out as a tastless rice porridge that gets better as you add things in it like thousand year old duck eggs, fish, pork, shallots etc.. accompanying it with deep fried bread sticks chinese style. Some people love it. I tolerate it. AND YOU KNOW WHO LOVES iT!. Sigh. I am all porridged out after the first morning. Bring on the MacDonalds egg McMuffin. As I turned a corner going to eat the porridge what do I see but a guy using a blow torch to cook meat. Not just a small torch BUT A BIIIIIIG one! So I asked him what he was doing because I told him I was ... read more
Well, I cannot imagine a better place to be today than at this place. I left off in the previous blog that we were taking a series of buses and more cable cars and such to the other location of these spectacular formations. Again the views were undescribable. My jaw remained open, because every curve we went around new wonders showed itself either from the people or circumstances to the views. As we turned one corner I saw a whole bunch of sticks lined up in a row under an over hanging rock. They seemed to be holding up the rock, so I asked what it was about and was told that people put them there if the have back problems and this would help the back. So of course I found an old eaten corn ... read more
Did you see the movie Avatar. It was filmed here. This is a surprise for you. (And us) My bucket list item. Before this place gets really exploited, this is a must visit in China. It is a little hard to get to. There is a local airport that you can fly within China to Chang Sa, but not from HK. We opted for train as previously mentioned, and then a 5 hour car ride. We have to go back the same way. It sounds harder but it is actually less complicated because of where this place is located. There is a new highway built recently and actually it is a pleasant drive. To begin with the national park is a gem. Thank goodness it is under protection. The views are nothing like we've seen anywhere ... read more
Lots of movies depicting the Wuhan clan. But not in todays world. Wuhan is a bustling Industrial city now known for lotus roots and of course manufacturing. It was very foggy and the day started off with a visit to the yellow crane temple which was built on a hill 1700 years ago. Lots of steps and terrasses to walk up. We climbed a huge pagoda which didn't seem original since there was an elevator in the middle of it. I think 1700 hundred years ago the elevators were not invented yet. I could be wrong. This city is also in construction mode as all the others I been to. China is in the 21st century, and have an oportunity to plan it right. They are on the right track, I am happy to say. They ... read more
We arrived in Chong Qing early so we could visit some sites before the cruise. Hence the BIGGGG Chopsticks.lol While in Chong Qing after lunch we toured around the city. Did you know that the population of this city is 37,000,000. Yes the population of Canada and a bit more. Down by the waterfront we went to an old hotel where they had converted it into multiple restaurants. The old charm was there and the photos tell the story. One thing that sticks out is that there are few restrictions. As long as no one is hurt. Examples: Dogs sitting at tables and eating like humans. I saw a dead pig on the road. It wasn;t hurting anybody, so it was left. Oh ya, dead pig no. 2 was floating in the Yangtze river. Drivers do ... read more
We are still on Montreal time and waking up in the middle of the night. The wife fell asleep finally at 4:30AM with a sigh of relief. BUT THEN: All the lights came on at the same time. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! We both woke up and were awake for good. Same thing happened in all the rooms. needless to say we all complained, and we each found a bottle of Cabernet Merlot Wolf Bass Australian Wine 2006 when we arrived tonight. The day started out well. We visited a 15 teir Pagoda that was cut down to 11 tiers as a result of an earthquake way back when.. While there we had fun riding cement horses, ringing large bells, and frolicking round. By the way the cement horses were really safe. They did not move much! We next ... read more
Of course we were good boys and girls and woke up on time. We arrived at the airport early and checked in. Everything was good to go until we got on da plane. There, we sat waiting for 1.5 hours before we could take off. Which meant that our schedule was all upside down. so, instead of seeing the Terra Cotta stone guys. ( Not STONED, but carvings) lol. We ended up once we landed in Xi'an, visiting a monk tower ( It was over 1300 hundred years old.) about 7 stories tall. It was standard stuff for us, but we needed to fill our time up. Next came lunch, and then we visited a museum of ancient history. Alot of artifacts and stuff from 600 BC. That took us til 5PM and then we visited ... read more
Today I awoke at 5:30 AM. So I woke the wife up also. lol. Needed the company. She convinced me to go swimming. I didn't know she smuggled my bathing suit into China. Olympic size pool. The Life guard wore a suit. I wander what he would do if I pretended to need help. Jump in with a suit on.. Today was Expo day. Nothing eventful happened that would prompt me to comment on. Enjoy the pics. Tonight is Egg night. Hint Hint......:) ... read more
Jetlaaaaaaag........So the day started off by finding out a couple of people whom we know had an emergency landing in Winnipeg on there way here. The Arrived last night. (Smoke in the cockpit). Not a good way to begin the trip. We were greeted by our Tourguide and sure enough, the bus could hold 30 people but we were 6. Out of season or its just the way things are done. We promptly went to Zhoupuzhen to visit a small area that resembles the style of Venice. took a little skiff on the water and were treated with the lifestyle of the former ages. it was cold on the water, so we were budled up.The highlight of our day was lunch or so I thought..... read on..... We decided we would go and eat "hairy crab" ... read more
