Day 1 - London - 30th July Finally, I somehow manage to arrive on the African continent. I say somehow as due to packing fiascos; have I packed enough, have I packed too much, could it be repacked better, forgetting to pack stuff (I own 3 pairs of sunglasses but managed to pack none!) and other little dramas along to way I somehow manage to arrive in Nairobi. Even when my standby ticket was confirmed and having 20 minutes to get threw security, to the gate and onto the aircraft; not even having to run and step round people like Cristano [View Full Entry]

Giraffe
Dont Feed The Giraffe
Was It You That Kissed Me?

For hopefully the last time, Bud and Irene came and woke us up at a ridiculously early time. We needed to be at the bus depot around 9:30 to board, so we needed to leave by 9. So apparently we needed to get up at 6:30! In my house, if I need to get up or leave or something, my parents get me up at the last possible moment (occasionally not leaving me enough time) but I prefer that. And generally, if I know what time we’re leaving, I can get myself up on my own and be ready on time, [View Full Entry]

Day 16 Jinja Uganda - Eldoret Kenya 23.6.09 Today we left Uganda and headed back to Kenyan boarder. The camp we left behind had a wooden shack outside with the words ”Avoid Morning Sex Africa” painted on all sides, out of all the crazy signs we've seen this is by far the best sign yet although there was also ”Deathrow Hair Salon” & ”We Cut Black People Hair”. We had a drive day so were happy when we stopped at a supermarket where we bought a Paw Paw and some gifts. We then spent the [View Full Entry]

Firstly, I am back in internet range. Thanks Steve for the 'what's going ons', but I had no idea that when I was going to the volunteer thing that the centre I would be staying at would have literally nothing. Ill try start getting some posts up, about what has been going on, once I get some reliable internet time. This is just to let people know everything is OKiedOKie at the moment. [View Full Entry]

Well I have found something in Kenya, so at least I can say I did some volunteer work. I think I am acquiring a slight taste for travel. Its like beer. I didn't like beer, but it grew on me now i like it. I am not sure I will ever truly love traveling but I like the people you tend to meet along the way. The place I am going to is Kenya Voluntary And Community Development Project, doing some environmental stuff. I wanted to do water and sanitation or sustainable farming, but apparently it is too dry at the [View Full Entry]

I just met some American called Joshua which was great as it helped pass the last hour and a half. With a name like Joshua I said to him (you could tell he was a bit Chrstian) something like are you a: "Hi my name is Joshua, brought up in a Christian home had a bit of a rebellious stage and came back to the Lord". Yip that's pretty close. Anyway teasing aside, we got to talking about politics, economics, spirituality, and aid work in Africa. Which was great as this guy actually lives here in Nairobi, works just across the [View Full Entry]

7.21.09 Thoughts from Mukeu: There are a few things I forgot to add about our time in Mukeu. On the last day there, Sarah and I were walking home and there were a bunch of kids who just got out of school who joined us. They don’t talk to us like Ugandan kids, but instead, laugh and point a lot. And stare. But on this particular day, one of them greeted me by throwing a rock at the back of my head. I don’t know enough in any African language to yell at them or reprimand, but I really wanted to [View Full Entry]

This morning came really early. We were supposed to leave the house at 5:30, so we were up far before then. Grace got up to make us all a nice breakfast and say farewell, and Jackson was up to wake us and open the gates for the taxi. Morris also came to drive the truck in. We said our goodbyes at the house, Grace in tears, and headed into town for the bus station. Kampala is quiet at that hour in the morning, though people were busy opening their shops. This bus is way nicer than the one to Kigali, with [View Full Entry]

Writing today with brighter eyes than last. Visiting the IDP camp in Eldoret was another life changing experience. I titled this blog with a quote I read in the Daily Nation today. Justice delayed is justice denied and I couldn't agree more. Living in Kenya has opened my eyes up to news beyond celebrity lifestyles and sports. I hope that the ICC gives justice to the victims of the post election violence. They;ve suffered long enough and it needs to be finished with. After having interacted with the refugees, makes the news now seem real. Before I could never connect with [View Full Entry]

Weird how when you do travel, usually a museum is top of the list. You head off somewhere to look at more of the same in a different place. The Museum was expensive like 800KSH for tourists, only 100 for locals. I guess I can understand tourists are supposed to have more money, but I can't help but be a little annoyed for having to pay so much more. I went with this Ozzie called David, he thought it was a bit much too. The museum was OK. It was nice to see some of the stuffed wildlife especially as dumb [View Full Entry]
