Hi all,
We are adding photos from Madrid. We went to the Prado museum on the first day. Great museum. Have covered most of the city. Enjoying the food and drink. We think Madrid is a bit Rome without as many ruins. We have had a little trouble with the language barrier. It seems very few people in Spain speak english at all! Some will try and interpret your pointing and bad Spanish pronunciation but others simply give you the NO! and send you away. (Go away you stupid American.) The high point of this came today when we tried to hop a train to Toledo (the original capital of Spain). We could not find a single person to help us get a ticket. So making the best of it we got a ticket from a machine that would do English, to Aranjuez. This was about half way to Toledo so we thought that we could just get a ticket at that train station.... well, apparently the trains don´t go that often and we would have had to get right back on a train to return. So we hung out a bit in Aranjuez and had lunch. Small town that
UNESCO gave some kind of agricultural thing to. They grow Strawberries and Asparagus there, neither being in season now (go figure). There are tons of gardens and green spaces, which were about the only thing open because it´s Monday and most of Spain closes on Monday. Off to birthday dinner (for those that don´t know I (Kim) am celebrating my b-day in Madrid). Will write again from Valencia or Barcelona.
Big hugs,
SandK
P.S. Happy birthday Frank!!
