08-30-17 The Tetons
Our little house was rather chilly this morning at 55 with it cooler outside at 44. The heater brought the temp to 58 very fast and that was tolerable. Sweatshirts were needed for the daily walks but it soon warmed up enough for shorts.
Ginnie and I left for our tour of the mountains about 10 am after looking into some activities for tomorrow. There was a little rain shower before we got up but then the skies slowly cleared. The temp was delightful and we headed south to view the grandure. We saw 4 white tail deer in some trees just off the road and discovered that one was a buck, about 6 points, still in velvet. They played hide and seek with us then dissapeared over a hill. I got a picture but it's hard to see the deer.
We pulled off the road several times to enjoy the Teton Range then to my favorite spot Oxbow Bend. The air was not very clear so the mountains were faded but still beautiful. As we photographed Mt Moran a white pelican came paddling toward us, strange to see him alone. He was quite fast
and from far away I didn't know if it was a canoe or not. Pictures
Then it was on to willow flats and the visitor's center to get our books stamped. We looked at the exibits and took our picture with the moose that guards the door. Ginnie said "Do you ever stop saying WOW !!" I hope not.
Next stop was Jackson and a picture under the antler arch. We strolled around town and sat in the square and took adventage of the free wi-fi. We have no signal at Flagg Ranch so this may be a few days in coming. A trip to town would not be complete without an ice cream cone which we found quite readily.
On the way back home we took the Moose Junction road and stopped at the Chapel of the Transfiguration. It is a beautiful dark brown log chapel with one outstanding feature. Behind the alter there is a huge picture window that overlooks the Grand. There is nothing on earth more spiritual.
Ginnie went around back and discovered that indeed the widow had a reflection of the Grand, another inspiritional picture.
As we headed home with
the Tetons on our left the clouds were chasing us from behind. Would we make it to let the dogs out before the rain started. Just in time, the guys had 3 minutes before they were to get wet.
Dinner for the pups, happy hour for us then it was an early night as we were exhausted.
