My advice to anyone attempting the Trans America Bicycle Ride is to go West to East! I thought I read the blogs, and researched it pretty well. But now that I have been riding my bike for over two months East to West, I can tell you with certitude that the prevailing wind is out of the West! I have faced headwinds all but twice! Today was another very difficult day thanks to the strong Westerly winds. I was prepared and even excited to be going over another mountain pass into Colter Bay in the Tetons. However, the 15 mph winds right in my face from the very start made the ride devistatingly slow. I simply wasn’t mentally ready for another day like this! As a result, I simply ran out of energy and stopped for ... read more

blog 08-31-17 Day of Rest We really needed it. We have been on the go for a long time and I think it just caught up with us. There was a little rain shower before we got up but then the skies slowly cleared. The temp was delightful and we headed south to view the grandure. We saw 4 white tail deer in some trees just off the road and discovered that one was a buck, about 6 points, still in velvet. They played hide and seek with us then dissapeared over a hill. I got a ... read more

June 2, 2010 - First things first: HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY, JIM!! Since I’m blogging this after the fact, I know that your birthday wish to arise next to majestic mountains and a pretty lake will come true today. In fact, God will put a rainbow in the sky for you first thing this morning! It was wonderful to spend the day hiking with you and you just can’t beat Reese’s birthday cake at the campsite. I’ll let you tell the rest of the story… What a way to spend your 40th birthday. Our morning started out with a nice ride through the country side. With the rain and all, we decided we might just take the scenic drive to see how the day would shape up. A Wyominger once told me that, “In Wyoming, if you ... read more
