First up, we went for a drive to Saint-Remy-de-Provence. A beautiful old city which started off as an ancient Roman city. The city was sacked by the Goths in AD 480. Vincent Van Gogh lived in the town for one year and in that time, he produced 150 works.

Saint-Remy is also the birthplace of Nostradamus, and the town is full of signs depicting his life.

We also visited the Abbey of Saint Therese in the town, founded in 1330. The church was in a poor state of repair, but was still fascinating to see an old church in an unrestored state.

The girls made the the most of the shopping in Saint Remy, and us guys displayed the "patience of the saints" in waiting outside many a shop.

After lunch, we visited the ancient hilltop town of Gordes. The streets are paved with cobblestones, and are very narrow, having been built for horse and carts. All of the buildings in the town are made of dry stone wall construction.

We visited the ancient Church in the town, and above the main alter was a fresco of a starry night, which coincidentally was one of Vincent Van Gogh's major works (and the inspiration for Don McLean's song).

The girls were keen to see a lavender field, and so we drove to the Abbey de Senanque, a famous postcard site. I have included a photo of the Abbey with lavender field in front. It made Kim's day.

I envy you so so much :) I was once in Provence but the lavender was a little late with flowering and I wasn't able to see it :( I wish I could see this someday
