We farewelled Elisabetta and Andrea this morning and travelled by car (not willing to have another "long day" of misinterpreting ferry timetables) to San Giovanni station Como and effortlessly caught the train to Milano - I even helped an American lady and was asked while wandering the streets of Milano if I was a local (well I think that was what I was asked)!! I must be looking relaxed. Watch this space for the next result of this probably hugely displaced confidence!!
Some random observations after our time as we prepare to leave Italy:
- It must have been a good summer as I have never seen so many great tans!! The Italians look fresh, fit and healthy.
- Just because there are “saldi” (sale) everywhere doesn't mean designer brands are affordable - sorry ladies
- Gelato and espresso are still fabulous and a doppio espresso is even better
- Beware places with huge cruise ships in the harbour - aka Piazza San Marco, Venezia
- Don't say “I can't see why everyone says it is easy to get lost in Venice” because, while you may not get lost, you may take four times as
long to get somewhere and pass the same landmarks more than once.
- Selfie sticks are SO yesterday
- Man buns may not be cool but they definitely exist in Europe
- Older Italians continue to smoke (a lot) but we haven't seen as many young people smoking
- Sard Wondersoap remains just that - a wonder
- A combination of cars, bikes, pedestrians, walkers, joggers and motor bikes on a one lane road in rural Italy seems to work - just
- Anyone not in the Gira d'Italia is on the roads around Lake Como
After regrouping, repacking, cross checking details, the itinerary and maps this afternoon and switching on to the excitement of a new culture, we are ready for the next stage of our adventure. We didn't really expect to have it before we left Milano but ... we had each worked out a good place for dinner but couldn't decide. The easiest way was to find the one where we became "least lost". Yes it happened again and, after walking around in circles for about 20 minutes, we found the place Mike found earlier - 3 minutes from the
Went a little "window" shopping
Found a huge Lego shop, miss these four and Finny, you can see why the Lego shop appealed hotel!!
The good news is that it was fabulous and was right beside the Duomo surrounded by Italian wines and the food was amazing. God is good ... despite our muck ups, He comes through!!
Buona notte!!
