We returned to Hamburg today. It seemed that once one crosses the German border the speed of the traffic goes up by 20 - 30 KPH. Considering the limit was 110k before the border you can imagine what the driving is like - especially when you see cars like a Nissan Micra doing 130K. Thankfully it is a divided highway but lots of trucks. The GPS located the hotel easily. We checked in and then got some gas before returning the car to the airport. Check-in was smooth and the hotel sent a van to get us from the airport. We are only about 5 minutes from the airport. Checked in with the airlines online and have our boarding passes on our phones so tomorrow morning the van will take us to the airport and we will be on our way home. It has been a great holiday and except for a couple of days the weather has been good.
Not many pictures today but did get a few pictures of interesting houses along the way and in the neighbourhood near the hotel.
We travelled a total of 4426K. The mileage (diesel) was 4.45l/100 K which is pretty amazing. When
the tank was filled the computer display showed a range of 1200K.
The car had an Economode Switch which I had on for the duration of the trip. My score was 65%. I suspect the lower score was caused by not shifting up sooner and keeping the revs up more than is necessary for a diesel motor.
The car was a Renault Clio and was very comfortable to drive. It was a 5 speed manual but quite an upscale model. It was equipped with GPS (Germany Chip Only), entertainment console, automatic climate control, automatic wipers, automatic headlights, electric steering and cruise control as well as the normal power windows, air conditioning, etc. It also had a proximity lock/unlock system which unlocked the car when you got close to it (if you had the transmitter in your pocket) and no key was required to start the car.
It has been a great experience and a real pleasure to meet with relatives in Sweden. Back to Vancouver!
