Let me begin today's entry with an update on last night's soccer game. Italy was victorious over England. The game ended in a shoot out. When the winning kick was scored the streets here errupted with horns, shouts, whistles and racing motorcycles. It lasted for hours. Since we are staying on the main street the noise was loud and clear. Did it bother us? Not at all. As tired as we were we both fell asleep amid the noise. Yea Italy!
This morning after breakfast and tea in our hotel we began more investigation of Sorrento. We made our way to Marina Grande. It was a little bit of a walk through winding passages and downhill. The issue would be the uphill return. On our return a woman stopped us to ask if the walk was worth it and the answer was "yes, definitely." It was beautiful. It was a small cove with a beach, some apartment homes, docked boats, and beautiful views of the water and coastline. A guide at the marina said the beach is used mostly by the locals. It did have sand but it was dark brown. There were a couple of restaurants and a few
fruit vendors along the plaza. They also had their own small church where the bells chimed on the hour. It's such a nice sound to hear those bells!
We visited two more churches here, San Francesco which was beautiful. They were in the process of decorating it with flowers for a wedding which was happening later today. The second church was the Basilica di Saint Antonio, which was also very pretty. These two churches are small town churches , not like the huge cavernous ones we've seen in Rome and elsewhere.
We continued to stroll the streets. They are so busy with people it's just fun to be out among them. You always encounter interesting sights while you're out and about. Again today we picked up some lunch and returned to our hotel to eat and relax out of the sun for a while. The best part of lunch was an olive salad that I had. It was just great!
Later in the day we returned into the Sorrento heat and sun. We were rejuvenated and ready for more strolling through the streets. For a small town there are many retail shops here. Pretty soon it was dinner time.
Our meals tonight
proved to be very good. I had lasagna again. I don't mind since it's always so good. Rich had a red stuffed pepper which was delicious. We also had an antipasto salad which was interesting. It had pickled pumpkin and brocolli , two types of cheeses, and two types of cured meats. It was very tasty and everything is served with a drizzling of balsamic vinegar on the side of the plate.
After dinner we went in search of an ATM machine. We ran into a similar problem in Florence. The machines only give so much money per day and when it's gone the machine stops working. We went to three different machines tonight before one worked. Now we are all set for tomorrow.
The evening ended with a gelato. Um! Good!

The view behind "just me" and "me too" is fabulous. Ok, I've been able to listen to you talk about the wonderful food, have been a little envious but ok with it - until you mentioned olive salad. I want one of those really, really bad. Hope
you got a recipe!!
