It's our last day in Salzburg and the fabulous 400 year old traditional Christkindl-Markt (Christmas markets) are in full swing around the cathedral platz and at the foot of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. It's all about food, Christmas punch, strudel and thousands upon thousands of Christmas decorations. We found one shop which was packed with real hand painted blown eggs including ostrich, just an amazing site. Trees are twinkling everywhere and will look brilliant once dark around 5pm. I find The weather today is quite balmy for winter; Chris disagrees so it must be the male menopause kicking in.We pop back to the bierhaus we found yesterday and amusingly there is a glass piece of floor looking down a long well. At the bottom lies a skeleton holding a stein.Laundrettes in Salzburg seem to be in short supply. It's amazing how clothing can be re-used, but it's gonna be a long day doing the washing on our return home. Smelling like a couple of tramps; not really.
We return to the Christmas markets and it's just beautiful at night. We try the warm punch 3 times. Oops didn't realise just how strong it is but delicious. Off to eat, sober up
and start our journey home.
Tomorrow we fly back to Vienna which should take around 30 minutes then onto Paris for a night. We've now decided not to go to the Christmas markets on the champs élysées which looked amazing being set up. Not worth the risk so will just relax at the airport hotel.

I was in Salzburg right before Easter, and there were many shops full of blown eggs that had been hand painted. They were stunning. I have pictures of them and often think about how much work those must have taken.
