Today was pretty much a rest from traveling day. We stayed a 2nd night at the hostel in Santa Cruz and had no real plans for the day. Alex slept in a while I wondered down to the waterfront. As I sipped a coffee I scored from a local deli, i heard the bark of what reminded me of a seal at one of those Sea World shows. I immediately headed out to the pier towards the sound. I quickly found the noisemaker, a sea lion hanging out on a floating dock with a buddy. After watching in amusement for a little while, I headed back towards our hostel stopping to watch the locals arriving at the volleyball courts for some early morning practice. Being a relaxing day, I decided i would try to get a game or two in at some point. Alex came down to the beach and I showed him the sea lions and we went in search of some large dolphins I had seen. No luck with the dolphins, we returned to the nets where I struck up a conversation with a player at one of the good games and called next. These guys were extremely nice and not standoffish as I was worried they might be to a visitor. We played the first game which my partner and I won. Seeing I at least could hang with them, we played another. The sand became so hot due to little black specks being heated from sun that I almost got blisters. One of the guys had already pulled out his sand socks and offered me a pair if we were going to play again. Unfortunately, one of the guys had to go to work, so I ended my California volleyball carrier 2-0.
Off we wondered again, ending up in a local taco shack. A quick burrito down and off we drove to the town of Monterey to see what they had to offer. Cannery Row is a famous street in this city known historically for, you guessed it, canneries. We quickly drove through finding the tourists shops lining the streets less than interesting. We figured out there was really not much for us in this town and headed back to Santa Cruz. Blowing off the rest of the day, Alex did some final video editing on a video he is working on and to bed we went,
