Paradise

Sunday saw us up early and leaving Onslow with its grey clouds and wind. We could see in the distance a beautiful blue sky and as we had 300+kms to drive we were hoping that would be around Ningaloo. The winds that day were very strong and blew the van all over the place.
We finally arrived at Cape Range National Park where Ningaloo is located and set up.
The marine park is very long but there are only a few campsites in each section. I guess the park allows about 60 campers in at any one time but they are spread out in allotted parks with volunteers as camp hosts to maintain some decorum.
We were at Tulki which is about halfway down and can hold about 11 campers. For the unlucky ones that haven't booked, they start queuing at 6.30 am to try and get a camp site. None of that for us as we booked months before.
The few days we spent there were extremely windy but we were lucky enough to have had a few hours respite where we could snorkel amongst the coral.
At Turquoise Bay the coral reef is about 5 meters off shore but the current is very strong. It could have carried us down the coast 500 meters in a few minutes without using flippers. We didn't stay out that long as it was a struggle to maintain your position without damaging the coral but we got some great shots.
The water stays about 22 - 30 degrees so after the initial shock of freezing your doodahs off it was lovely.
Every evening back at camp was happy hour(s) which was great to find out what everyone else had done and if there was anything different to do in the area.
We saw kangaroos, emus, birds including budgies and even a bush turkey(for all of you with deviate minds, be nice).
Sadly after 4 days it was time to pack up and head for Exmouth.
