Life Is Wild At Luna Llena :)

When we first decided to come to Montezuma and stay at Luna Llena, Robert had read about the varied and diverse amount of wildlife to be seen here. We were not disappointed that time and we have not been this time either.

when we first arrived this time, we were told there had been a tarantula in the bathroom closest to our room. We have yet to have seen it but it and another one have been seen by several of the guests here.

Because Milly, the owner, does a great job of trying to be as environmentally sensitive as possible, she has a container to place all of the organic garbage in and they throw it over the fence to mulch and feed the wild animals that hang around here. We have seen both the coati and agouti heading down the hill to find something to snack on.

There has been a little spotted skunk that has shown up several times and we get a "whiff" of his presence other times as well. The people in the dorm room say he quite often goes in their room because the door is open and roots through the trash can. they are very careful to give him
his space! One night there were about 15-20 of us sitting around visiting when the skunk appeared, came to the dorm door but it was closed, so headed into the kitchen. Looked around there for awhile but kept us all entertained for awhile but we kept a respectful distance.

The iguanas will make their appearance coming up or down the steps and climbing the tree. They also will drop with a loud thud onto the corrugated roof and walk across it.

Then of course there are the monkeys. The howlers mainly make their howling noise but they rarely cause any problems. The white-throated capuchins are the mischief makers. They love to jump on the corrugated roof and peer over the side at you. Sometimes they bare their teeth in an attempt to appear fierce I guess. They will leap great distances and put on quite a show. One day when we were here, there were some plantains near the barbeque pit and they put on quite a show coming down, trying to figure out how to pull the plantain loose and then climbing the tree to eat it as they watched us watching them. They also can cause trouble if food is left out and they get in the habit of coming to get food.

It is a neverending parade of wildlife here and this of course is one of the reasons this hostel is so special to us.

I know this place...had friends who stayed there.Did you do the hike to Playa Grande? it is wonderful there....never saw other people when I hiked along it...you can go there right from Luna Llena....

Thanks for commenting Raye. This was our third trip to Montezuma, third time to stay at Luna Llena.... hiked to Playa Grande on an earlier trip. :)
