Yes. If you didn't know it is now Yabbie season in Nanjing.

So we went Yabbie .... fishing/hunting/collecting?
It was only a 25 minute drive from our home.

We arrive at a shed at the side of the road.
Behind the shed was a series of man made square lakes.

In order for us to catch the yabbies we needed to catch a frog to use as bait.

OK... The owner took his net and off he went. He caught some pretty quick.
He then started to skin the frog while it was still alive..... Gross.
OOhhh. I couldn't watch..
The frog was tied to the end of a bamboo pole and off we went.

It was great. You could feel the yabbies grabbing the food. Then you have to lift the line up really slow
and get them onto the bank. If you where too quick they just fell back in the water.
Great fun.
Matthew caught 15, I caught 7 and Serena lost count...

We had also found a little turtle. Serena was so exited. She wanted to keep it. My only concern was what to do with it when it got too big. Our driver quickly jumped into the conversation with, "They taste really good when they are big." Serena's looked a little sad and replied, "I think i will let it go." Which she did.
Then we went to lunch and ate the yabbies at a little concrete house down the road with fishing ponds. It was a little strange.... There where only men to be seen. The owner of the place was dressed like a madam and there where cards on the table outside. I asked my driver why there where only men. He replied... "All the women are at home. Women don't fish."
