We both picked up our hire cars (Bolli's and I) in Modena this morning ready to hit the road. Mine booked via Qantas cost a bomb vs their's via Expedia. Lesson learnt. Sure I'll get points, at a cost. Oh well, on a budget for a few weeks now.
Jasper, Mr GPS, got me on the autostrade no problemo. Everything ends with o in Italio so we use o at the end of almost all words now-o.
Once I was comfortable with my car I took my first road trip stop. Quick mozzarella salad lunch-o. Tapped on the shoulder whilst at the servery so hoped it was my first proposition now I'm on my own. Who would have guessed it - Ginnetto and Leso. Seems they have tapped into Jasper and I can't escape. I ate extra slowly so they'd be long gone when I departed.
Back on the road and I was feeling very reckless, Virgin radio blaring, admiring the Adriatic and my F.panda humming at 120kpm. Until a F.bambino flew past me on the autostrade. Blew my coolness away. I'll need to step it up tomorrow.
Took a detour, much to Jasper's confusion, to get closer to the
sea. Very hazy in the afternoon (the sky, not my head - no drinks yet).
Got sick of Jasper's protests and diverted back to the right road. I'm staying in Loreto, Marche for two nights. A lovely B&B with two rooms. The second room is occupied by guests from Sydney, we haven't met yet.
I wandered around Loreto today and am now sipping (!) my ~$3 glass of wine. Budget allows quite a few at that price! Plus no one eats until at least 730 so I have to do something!
Loreto is an ancient spiritual site, part of a symbolic route for Christians Rome-Assisi-Loreto. (No I did not know that Ginnetto). Within the Basilica is the Holy House which preserves three stone walls from the House of the Virgin Mary of Nazareth (yes Les, baby Jesus' mumma). In that house she was born, lived and had the Angelic Announcement. The Holy House was moved to Loreto in 1294. Why would that happen? I don't know.
There is an entire corridor containing confessional booths with people waiting outside.
Apart from obvious pilgrims, it appears a very quiet town. I almost feel guilty sipping my vino. The second glass has gone straight to my head and it's not dinner time yet. Confessional??
Was going to end it there.... But more to tell. Think I just had the best feedo so far in Italia. Gnocchi ragu. Cheap as ... Well cheap. And I'm onto my fourth glass of vino. Paid my bill and was given a medallion of the Virgin Mary for luck. I'm a sucker for that stuff. It will be around my neck tomorrow.
NOTE: I know this is my first blogo. I was going to leave it to Leso but feel the truth needs to be reported so will be back-tracking over the last week to fill you in on THE FACTS.
Ciao.

Do you need extra nights for all the confession-o's you need to do....
