Yesterday we went to the fort in the cliffs and then did my favorite activity, canoeing down the Dordogne River to the three medieval towns. The weather wasn't as nice as last year. It was windier, which made it harder to paddle, but we were just about the only nuts on the river, so it was pretty cool. Good upper body workout.
After our first wonderful meal we are having a little trouble eating. We haven't wanted to make reservations because we didn't want to commit to anything and we never know what we will be doing. We breakfast at the B&B and then start snacking pretty quickly on pastries, breads, etc when we are out and about. So we aren't hungry for lunch until about 2 or 2:30, and that just doesn't meet the French restaurant's schedule. If we find someplace for a late lunch, then we aren't hungry enough for a big dinner. It is hard to go out at dinner time in france and just get dessert. They kinda frown on that and look at you like you are crazy. So we have been struggling a bit. We have decided in Italy, we will make reservations every
crazy bridge our gps took us over
it looked like it was made out of wood planks and was in the middle of nowhere. we didn't know if we were supposed to drive on it or not. Where is Tom when you need him. At least we didn't have to play chicken with another car. other night and work around it.
We had lunch today at a Rick Steve's recommendation. A nice restaurant. We were the only people there in baseball caps...oops. Americans. We were also the last ones in there, since we didn't show up until about 2:30. They wouldnt serve us the full lunch menu, only a certain section. I think they were ready to get us out the door. But the food was pretty good.
I have figured out how to order ice..yay. And we figured out how to order tap water, so Dot doesn't have to pay $6 for water.
Last night we wanted a light dinner so we walked down the street in our neighborhood to a restaurant we had seen earlier. Only one car in the lot. We walked up and the owner unlocked the door for us, kicked the cat of the chair and seated us. He was so sweet. Barely any English, but he wanted to please us so much. We loved him. I didn't tell cat there had been a cat at our table. She didn't see it.
Tonight was a bit of an eating disaster, but I think Mary will enjoy embellishing that story. I will leave it to
her.
Dee is ready to move on to Italian gelato. Tomorrow is a travel day.

If it's raining & chilly, how can anyone complain when you wear caps????
