our lovely snack yesterday
fois gras, fries, cheese try and meat try. Yummers Geo: 45.2792, 0.215607
We all slept great last night. we were so tired. The B&B is quiet, they have new bedding and linens which are awesome, and we each have our own bed. yay! I hate it when I have to share with Dot.
The B&B served us a nice breakfast. The bread and croissants here are so good. Then we headed out for market day in Sarlat. Sarlat is the larges town around here and their market day is huge. All the locals were buying their food at the stands. Lots of free samples. IT was hard to pass up anything. We tried the chocolate, of course, sausages, pastries, almonds, breads, fois gras. They were frying up sliced potatoes in giant woks in a ton of butter or duck fat, not sure which but it didn't matter because it tasted amazing.
People were young, old, lots of dogs, not much English, but we managed. It is pretty funny - i have become our translator and I know about 20 words of french. I just nod a lot and pull out my wallet. It rained off and on most of the morning, but nothing stopped us. Dot fell down and got all wet. Some
short hike to Castle Commarque
We parked and did a short 20 minute hike (all downhill to get there) to a castle ruins that we toured, very out of the way, lady was pulling a shopping wagon behind her and Dot didn't see it - tripped over it. She is fine, but as usual, the Americans make a scene.
We parked in a pay lot. When we tried to exit, we put our ticket in the machine followed by a credit card. no attendant. after rejecting four different American credit cards, the gate finally opened and it said to pay at the carousel? Thank God the gate opened because there was a line behind us by then. We sent Mary off on foot but she couldn't figure out where to pay, so she gave the money to a homeless guy and we hurried out of town.
We didn't really eat lunch, since we ate so much food at the market. Dee had her first Nutella crepe-yumm. Plus, we have reservations tonight at some really good restaurant, so we were trying to save room.
We then got our culture fix at the Prehistoric History Museum, kind of a yawn. We also had a beautiful hike to Castle Commarque. It was all downhill to get there and of course all uphill on the way out. Didn't matter, really pretty hike through the woods and then Castle
ruins to tour with lots of steps. We got our exercise today.
We were going to go see tour a chateau that was owned by Josephine Baker, but we took a wrong turn and then was afraid it was getting to late in the day. We don't want to miss our dinner reservation. The day just sped by. All of a sudden is was 5;00 pm.
Later the same evening:
We just returned from the most amazing gourmet dinner. I have to do a separate blog entry for all the foodies reading this. More to come.
