The worst kind of high maintenance
DAY TWO
Tuesday, September 27, 2016
We connected to Lisbon via Iberia airlines (a One World partner of American Airlines) and were met by a Tauck rep. A van transferred us downtown to the Four Seasons Ritz Lisboa -- passing by the city's soccer stadium, the University, the aqueduct -- to a lovely room on the 5th floor, with a veranda overlooking the city and the distant harbor.
We did a little recuperating and met up with Anne at 5 pm for a short walk around the area. We headed to a mall to buy additional adaptors as we brought along a suitcase full of electronic items … we (I use that term loosely) have two iPhones, two iPads, an iPod, camera battery recharger, laptop, electronic curlers and curling iron … to say nothing of 5 auxiliary batteries for when the main batteries wear down. According to Billy Crystal in
When Harry Met Sally, " regarding high maintenance. "You're the worst kind; you're high maintenance but you think you're low maintenance."
We headed to an ATM to snap up the first of many Euros and found our way to a restaurant recommended by the concierge. Our requirements: tasty, not too far away and open for business for ugly Americans who wanted to dine at 7 pm instead of the traditional 10 pm. Tonight, at least, we were similar to the natives of Naples, FL who hit the Early Bird Specials at 4 pm. Jerry Seinfeld, help us out here! Are we in Del Boca Vista?!?
The restaurant, Sabor & Arte, was Portuguese. It had a lovely courtyard and some mighty fine fresh sea bass. Anne tried the house Portuguese white wine and she said it was delightful. I had the coffee and it reminded me a little of that thick black stuff from Turkey. Glad I ordered Americano and not espresso.
By the time we returned from dinner, Barcy had arrived and ordered up room service. We greeted her with warm hugs and we all turned in. Well, maybe the other three did. I had to edit and post photos on Facebook, do our first laundry and write this blog. The FB photos already brought commentary: my sister yawned at my boring photos of the Madrid airport, Terri Kerley and Kathy Crandall encouraged our sisterly banter; Patrick's brother Alan correctly identified that Patrick had not opted for
some exotic Portuguese seafood entrée.
I love social media – I feel all of you who travel along are right here with us. Delighted to have you along!
