Even though the Nairobi Airport was open for business, Swiss Air had a problem getting their computers to recognize a flight number change. This resulted in a 3 hour delay in our departure.

The logistics of getting from the airport to the lodge went off without a hitch. We entered Nairobi National Park around 11:30 pm. The park was locked but we were met by an armed guard who unlocked the gate. We had not travelled far in the park when we were greeted by a couple Thompson's gazelles. A few miles later we saw zebras. Then, we arrived at our incredible accommodations around 12:00 am.

Even though we were way late, our hosts met us at the lobby, provided an incredible dinner with wine, and we were entertained by a pride of lions (complete with 3-4 cubs) hunting a herd of Cape buffalo.....literally 100 yards from the deck where we were dining. As we stood outside watching the hunt, the 7-month old orphaned impala that has been adopted by the Emakoko lodge, hid behind us.

We fell asleep to the sound of lions roaring in the not too distance.

What an incredible way to start the Africa trip.

You think that's impressive, I've just finished navigating most of the way back from Manassas already this morning down I95. My day has been much more dangerous and unpredictable than yours! I'll send pictures. I saw impalas, mustangs, etc.
