I am still wrapping my head around that I am in ROME! While the scenery is completely different, it truly hasn't hit me that I will be here for 5 weeks!
Today was the first day of classes. For my art class, we went to Scuderie del Quirinale to see a special exhibit - da Caravaggio a Bernini. On the way there, we took the bus to the metro, and then walked about 10 minutes. The exhibit was in the same area that the President lives in.
Also, we went to the grocery store to buy some snacks and lunch meats. The store was about a 20 minute walk, but coming back with all of our groceries going up hill made me really appreciate the ability to go a few streets over in my car to buy quick groceries.
Tonight, we were on our own for dinner, so a few friends of mine and I went downtown to a restaurant that many people have suggested. We took the bus all the way to the last stop. We were able to take a quick detour to the bridge and see the Fiume Tevere, a river that runs through the
city. -Also near the bridge was the Supreme Court building, and in a far distance, we were able to see St. Peter's Basilica.
Then we walked about 15 minutes to the destination, Osteria dell'Anima. LET ME TELL YOU, these students were not wrong! This restaurant is known for its pear-stuffed pasta, yes pears! It was absolutely delicious and so unique and nothing that I've had before! The pasta was complimented with a carrot cream sauce, and it was so filling!
After dinner, we walked right over to Piazza Navona, known for pick-pocketing, so we kept our belongings close! There is an eerie feeling to the night life in Rome after 10 pm. We noticed people following us at points, but found some other Xavier students quickly, and just overall not as vibrant as the daytime.
Blisters have started to form, I was covered in sweat all day, and I will be sore tomorrow from walking over 22,000 steps. Not used to all of the waking yet, but I'm sure by next week, I'll be on my way!
Also, side note: missing AC!
Ciao!
