Merida is a vey appealing city in the Yucatan Peninsula with marvellous colonial buildings, authentic people and a lot of food vendors on the streets.

It certainly is a bit caotic and also smoggy but still very attractive with art galleries, modern restaurants.

While exploring the city on foot, I loved the horse-drawn carriage with many traditional music performances and dances.

Definitely Merida has an entirely different ambiance to Cancun or Playa del Carmen.

It is a great Mexican destination with an influence of colonial history and spectacular Archaeological sites nearby.

It was founded in 1542 by the son of Spanish Conquistador Francisco de Montejo.

Even though, in some parts, it is too much modern for me and when I am in these kind of city I also like to discover the outskirts of the place.

I enjoy much more the feeling of the rough streets and vendors with trash on the ground and bastling until late in the evening.

I like to see the city at work with the residents rushing to the bus stop to get on it and going at work.

I am happy to chat with the local people, in Spanish, while eating my dinner at the stand and to see what they say about their city or country.

The true local people are always a great source of information about: looking for the cheap stay, kind of bus to take to visit some sights and quiet places to escape the huge mass of tourists.

Wherever I go in mexico I feel always amazed by their friendly people and beautiful places.
