Yes yes yes, Cat has landed!!
It all started with a text from Catherine’s best friend Simon on the Wednesday - who had just arrived in London himself - giving me Cat’s flight details and the excitement began!
I met with Simon on the Thursday, and found out that he too was staying at our house - a bit of a surprise!! But a welcome guest! I was just so happy to have some Aussie around me 😉
I went out for dinner with Simon after work and dropped off our stuff with Victoria’s boyfriend before going out to China White in a rickshaws!! OMG.. They have to be the most unsafe form of transport ever.. They are the bikes with seats on the back, and are very much a part of London, so we wanted to take Simon on one for a photo and the experience, but our driver was so cheeky - swerving and turning, even chasing other rickshaws!! Death trap doesn’t even begin to explain it!! But we did make it in one piece, although we asked the driver not to drop us at the door, but around the corner!! Hehe.. Couldn’t possibly be seen
Finally... In the flesh!
Both exhausted, but both happy to be in London! getting out of one of those!!
We were planning to stay out all night, but we finished early at China White and went over to China Town to grab something to eat (nothing like noodles at 3am!) and then wanted nothing more than an hours sleep before heading back out to the airport, but Simon didn't want to hear about it, so we went to James and he stayed out.. When we called him at 5:30am from the train station we agreed to meet him at he was still in a club and when we finally found him he was a mess, but the three of us made it out to Heathrow to meet Catherine.
Tired, smelly and in her own little world, Cat got off the plane! I think slightly shocked by how happy I was to see her, as I’m sure I could have balled her over, she just giggled when I spoke!!
I couldn’t win.. Victoria said that I was saying words such as “feral!” that she had never heard me say before, and Catherine was laughing at me because I sounded so posh!
I joined them all on the tube, and got
London Rikshaws!!
Sime had to experience the bikes that run the roads of the West End! off a few stops earlier to go straight into work wearing the same thing I had left in the night before!! Opps!! But had a shower and breakfast there ready to start before 10, which was fantastic! Victoria took Catherine back to the apartment with all of her luggage, Simon decided to stay out in the city on his own and meet Catherine later. But when the girls got all the way home they realised that Victoria had left her keys at James' house the night before, so they came all the way back into my work and had to pick them up, and then back out again! At least she got the chance to see the best and the worst of the London transport system!!
Saturday we were all left up to our own devices, Cat and Simon explored more of London while Vic and I did the boring weekend essentials, and getting all geared up for a big and crazy Saturday night! Victoria had managed to get us on the guest list to one of the biggest and coolest night clubs in London, Movida, owned by the same guy as China White. Saturday night is members only,
so we were very proud of ourselves, and thought it would make quite the introduction to London night life!!
Finally we got to do the whole girly thing!! Pull out the wardrobe and look at who has what, who fits into what, and who has the best legs for which skirt!! Simon - who is just as much a girl as we all are, was also chopping and changing and straightening the hair!! Outfits finalised, Simon headed out on his own with another friend of his while we went our own way to paint the town red, as I had been anticipating as soon as Cat gave me the dates she was coming!!
It was’t until the tube ride in that I finally got out from Catherine her big boy news and her actuialy travel plans.. Her boyfriend Ray has asked her to marry him.. Now, we’re great with champagne without reason, but now we had a real reason to toast, it didn’t faze us in the slightest that it cost us £48 ($125) for 3 glasses! Well.. Now.. That’s a lie!! It did faze us a lot.. But when other people were spending £24,000 per bottle, we
thought we had a bargin!! Luckily for us, they were the only drinks that we had to buy all night, as we were adopted by a young group who had their own table, ice buckets of vodka, and by the looks of things, Daddy’s credit card! But the other news that excited me a little less was that Cat was planning on following Simon to Scotland.. I was going to loose my only Melbourne friends days after finally getting them!! Still, that wasn’t going to dampen the spirits, it just meant we had to party a little harder!!
At one stage during the night the music was stopped and this little anthem played, as a huge bottle of champagne was carried through the room with sparklers attached. I asked one of the girls at our table, as she apparently goes in 2 to 3 times a week and she explained that it meant that someone had just bought a 24,000 pound bottle, so everyone stopped to look where it was going! We snuck a drinks menu in our handbags to remember just how crazy the prices were, and people were actually drinking it!
Needless to say on Sunday
morning I was feeling a little danced out and worse for wear, I was all up for doing nothing!! Simon was still out on his bender, and Cat had family friends to visit (smart girl arranged to meet them on a Sunday.. Which meant Sunday Roast!!?) Victoria and I met up with James in the afternoon and saw The Devil Wears Prada, which I just loved! Erin & Mark back home in Melbourne saw the movie on pre-release and have been telling me for weeks that I must see it, and they were soooooo right!! I love power women, better yet, power women with a bit of moral and romance at the end of a weekend!
Which takes me back to Monday - Friday at work, and Cat and Sime to Scotland :P
On the upside, Victoria is off to Holland to spend some time with her Mum, and is then bringer her back with her.. So we are going to have a mummy in the house looking after us, and cooking for us!! Can’t wait!! Love the independence, enjoy cooking and managing my own time - but everyone needs a mothers love!!
