Split-arse journey from Onslow to Broome. Left Onslow at 5:40pm Monday (not far ahead of the sunset) and blasted through to Karratha where I had to stop and clean the bugs off the windscreen. Had intended to make it past Port Hedland (550km) before stopping, which would have put me about halfway to Broome, but the hoppers (kangaroos) and cattle were too thick both on and to the sides of the road. Pulled in after Yule River (about 40km short of Hedland) for the night at 11:40pm (after five hours at the wheel) and then pushed off again at 5:45am and drove the remaining 6.5 hours to Broome, arriving at 12:15pm.

From about Pardoo onwards the south-easterly picked up and had reached about 30 knots by the time I got to Broome. (Sucked the fuel gauge down a bit!)

Set up Mr Percival at the Roebuck Bay Caravan Park then headed off to the airport to pick up Fi, who arrived on the 1:30pm flight from Perth.

Windy as hell still in Broome (hammered the canvas on Mr Percival all through the night), but good news is the road to Dampier Peninsula is open again after last week's rains (about 100mm in Broome and more in the East Kimberley). The wind would certainly have helped dry the clay out!!

Stocked up today and ready to head off to Middle Lagoon tomorrow.
