Trying my best to look professional!!
Feeling like a 30-something, I fear that I am on the verge of become.. Boring!! Lucky for me, I don’t have that option here in London, but I tell you, I certainly aged since starting Mon-Fri work!!

It’s been a long time since my last entry for many reason’s.. One - because life is starting to feel, well, normal! I am actually living, eating, breathing (even apparently strutting down the streets) like a Londoner and it seems just silly to write up what I ate for breakfast! But I also haven’t organised the internet at home yet, so it’s just been the sneaky email from work.. So I do appologise!

But I am still having an amazing time, and starting to think more and more seriously about staying much longer.. I have really fallen for this city!!

The apartment is still standing, although, we have already got ourselves in all sorts of pickles! One day the power went out, due to a fuse, but we had no idea how to turn it back on, and it took us a good few hours to pluck the courage to door knock on the neighbours and find out where our switchboard

Victoria used to Manage at Nightclub Info, so we grabbed a sneaky photo for nostalgic reasons!
was!! Victoria had a cat sneak in the door only last week and spent a good hour trying to chase it back out again!! I have no-idea how she managed to let it out, but it made for a good laugh!! And our bathroom has already seen more hair colour than the local salon as I decided I wasn’t trusting another hairdresser with my hair just yet (after only having Lee do my hair since I was a tiny tot!)- so went DIY, and spent a few days “fixing” and “changing” (as discovered by M&D when they saw my credit card statement of my repeat visits to the salon suppliers!).. Needless to say, I will be going to a hairdresser next time!!

M&D sent me the necessitates to decorate and make home.. Photo’s from Mum’s latest discovery of the photo printer, Vegemite, Cookbooks (pictures as proof that I have actually been using them!), Clinkers, silly Aussie stuff that only Japanese tourists and homesick teenage girls enjoy such as plastic flags, Aussie Sheila mouse pad, aussie money magnets - Not to mention the naughtiness sent by Debbie from the DSSIG conference - that I am only to mention as proof

that I received!

Event work has been great! I have seen some more amazing buildings and galleries.. I was at a 50th Birthday a few weeks ago in an Orphanage Museum (Bizarre! But absolutely beautiful) for a client that spends over 2 million pounds per year with the Event Company.. So, no pressure!! Ha!! It was an all white aristocrat guest list with more Lord’s and Lady’s than I knew existed, but enough woosing and shmoozing kept the guests all very happy and kept me out of trouble!

I also did some work in Canary Warf for Credit Suisse (The bank that sponsored the open air concerts I saw with the boys in summer) in their Board Rooms and an exhibition.. It was much tighter security than the Lincon Inn, as I had EVERYTHING, and I mean everything searched! I felt like I was going to board a plane, but once I got inside, all I can say is WOW.. Money! These men knew how to dress, and which designer to wear! But at the same time, I have never been more disgusted by the number of married men approaching both me and other girls on shift.. Again,

The deadly Cowboy, who may very well have fallen off his horse after a few too many of these!
when Victoria and I went for a drink in Canary Warf the other night, it was a ‘Battle of the Business Card’!! These men will hand their cards with various titles around, trying to chat you up without any subtlety, while still having their wedding bands in full view!!

Victoria also spent a night surrounded by wedding rings, but for all the right reasons! She worked at one of the Tiffany & Co. Store Openings with quite a few celebs and beautiful jewels.. I sent her on the mission of not only finding me an English husband, but finding the perfect ring to match! No such luck.. Hmmm..

So that brings me to Hamptons, the company I am now working on Reception for earning my own pounds so I can shop at Tiffany’s all on my own!! The office is brand spanking new, and still looked like a building site the Friday before we moved in! It is next to the American Embassy, and although we are assured we are safe behind the bullet proof glass, we have already been put on security alert within only two weeks of being in the building! This has actually worked to my favour as now all the staff have to announce to the reception desk when they are coming and going - and as I have no idea who a lot of them are, having them tell me their names each day is certainly helping me, and it makes for a good giggle as they all play on the fact they have to “present” themselves as if they are performing on stage or back in school!

Work itself is ok, I have loved getting them all organised, and filed! My first day was really a shopping trip to get me suited up in a cute little black skirt suit, all on company expense! The next week was then spent back and forth in Selfridges (not quite Harrods, but more upper market than David Jones) spending 700 pounds on this and that!! I was in heaven!! I work within a team of 3 where we look after the board rooms, reception and staff café. Trudi - Awesome! She is the Reception Manager, and does all the overseeing of hospitality and service, ordering and supply ect. Becoming British only last week, Trudi moved from South Africa 9 years ago and never went

home! Vilma (like Wilma from the Flinstones, but with a V!) is gorgeous, but so shy! She is the Hospitality Assistant who feeds and waters all the staff in meetings, and keeps an eye on the café, ensuring all the staff are well caffinated! Then there is me, I answer the phones, book the rooms and sit smiling as good little blonde Australian’s do.. Not brain science, but coming into a fresh office, I have the space to make my own files (people who know me and my mother know how much we love folders), create my own job description and procedures and make myself “indispensable”! One of the guys in International approached me about organising a 3 day exhibition with cocktail party that got me all very excited, so I am doing my best to make it as interesting as possible - When all else fails there is the constant que outside the Embassy for American Visa’s which makes for interesting people watching & the police which we make coffee and tea for to keep them on our good side! Never know when they'll come in handy.. And of course there is the local pub, an essential to all

James didn't want us walking home in the cold, so found us jumpers that matched our dresses!! What a star!!
workplaces, especially this one, as alcohol runs thicker than blood in this office - Love it!!!

There are a few other young ones, I would still be the youngest by at least 5 years, but they are all great fun (as discovered at the Pub!).. I have taken my responsibility from Australia as GC gossip queen very seriously, and am slowly working my way around the Hamptons goss circle - but trying very not to fall into it!!

A long working week sure makes you appreciate the weekend, which I have been “appreciating” every hour from 6pm Friday to 10am Monday!! I feel like a school kid on a Friday, eagerly anticipating the weekend plans!

The other week I met with Bree’s cousin Josh - another Aussie on the run! Victoria and I have also been introducing ourselves to DJ’s and Bouncer’s and have now made some pretty good friends in good places, getting entry into some of the hot clubs, in preparation for Catherine’s arrival..

We also found a very swish Members Club off Regents Street, where one of the DJ’s I met the week before works, only problem being that the best night is

Hmmm... Do you think anyone will notice that I'm wearing the same thing I wore last night?? NO!! Not with the sunglasses!!
a Sunday, so I only rolled into bed a few hours before work! Opps.. But like I said - Appreciating the WHOLE weekend!!

Last Friday after having drinks after work, we headed over to Covent Garden for a friend, Williams, birthday, but ran into a gorgeous group of boys out on a Stag Night! Didn’t make it home until the first buses and trains were running, and I couldn’t feel my feet from so much dancing, but we sure had fun being 2 girls in a group of 14 very attractive English boys!! Determined not to let sleep deprivation get in the way of the weekend we were back out Saturday night, this time staying at Vic’s boyfriends house, where I was sprung by M&D still on the couch Sunday afternoon when they called, still wearing what I wore when I went out the night before.

James very kindly leant us each a jumper for the ride home, that he very carefully picked to match the dresses we were wearing.. We looked ridiculous, walking to the tube at 1:30 in the afternoon in oversized jumpers (although very colour co-ordinated!), dresses and stilettos, but hey, it’s not like I

I fear that it is only a preview of the trouble we will get in once Catherine lands! Can’t wait 😉

Going well and we are all very proud of you...
Megan, good to hear the news that all is well. But.......please don't feel like a 30-something. That would make your Mum in the high double digit age bracket - and your Dad - almost triple digit age bracket (but I will deny ever saying this). Keep the news coming and lots of pictures. Your lacking a few "Boy / Girl" photo snaps - or is this to ensure Mum worries less. Well done Megan Ian
