I am back in DC for the autumn. Every day I pack my camera, a jug of water, some fruit, a couple of good books and my journal into my daypack and head out either on foot or on my bicycle to explore. DC is NEVER boring. Here's nineteen slices of what's been happening on or near the National Mall in Washington DC. this September.

I learned of the Embera crew's difficult passage to DC from Panama. They gave me a private tour of their beautiful sailing ketch. I made new friends. Please find out more at: www.pajarojai.org

Fantastic set of pix
You son-of-a-gun!!! Marvelous set of pictures -- and what an adventure! Of course, you know I'm jealous --- so --- where to next??? Just returned from a three-week junket to China -- working with Global Volunteers (out of St.Paul, Minnesota) as an English (conversation) teacher with 96 Chinese college juniors, most of whom are preparing to be tour guides and interpreters for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Lived in a small village - An Shang - northwest of Xi'An, a couple of hours flight west of Beijing!! When can we get together for coffee/chow/etc.?? And where are you bound for next??? (I still remember - fondly - out days in Shiga!!!) Jim

power to the people of dc
Street level photos show a life that the limo-loungers will never know....unless they're caught with their hand in the petty cash box....The Mall is the nation's front lawn and we are fortunate indeed to have it open to all.
