Up and at 'em (Adam) everyone as we depart for travel day #2. Left Motel 6 at 8:30 AM. They had their light turned off! Cloudy and 39 Degrees. Brrrrrr.......we aren't used to this cold weather. Of course, today we didn't layer up like yesterday (fools that we are) so a tad chilly in the RV. Front heater seems to take the chill off okay.
Happy Birthday to our wonderful daughter, Lory. We remember, 51 years ago, traveling through a blizzard snow storm in Buffalo to eventually get to Kenmore Mercy Hospital. She took awhile arriving but finally after 11:00 PM she entered this world. We were overjoyed and so proud of our firstborn, newborn, daughter. And to this day, we have the very same feelings. ?? Happy Birthday To You, Dear Lory ??. We love you!
This blog will be short and sweet today...please no applauding! I'll do the best I can, however. There isn't a lot of things to see or do as we motor along today. I'm glad you can at least keep yourself busy. Lulu gets restless.
We passed a poor RV'er on the side of the highway having to be towed ....police behind
Another RV'er with a problem
Good luck, guy....we know what you are going through them to warn folks to slow down or is it slow up....which would be the correct grammar? Comments appreciated. Anyway, we could relate to them and have empathy....been there, done that! Not fun....no,no, no! Took a few pictures at one of the rest areas. The State Police sign with Lulu is for our son-in-law, Jim, as he is a NYS Trooper. He'll love it! The sign for gas was around Pulaski, VA.: $1.75 gas/ $2.14 diesel. Wow!! We love it! Came into a moving parking lot on I-77 just before the huge mountain going into NC. Raining and very foggy. Slowed everyone up which is fine with me. 2:30 PM and we've just entered into North Carolina.
RV seems to be handling fine. Still in wonderment about that horrifying, big time rocking event we survived from yesterday. Cory just wants to forget it. I can't. He thinks that one of the tires on our tow car skidded around the corner when we turned caused it...I don't. Any mechanics and others out there who might have an idea? The scene was: on a 2 lane road that ended facing a perpendicular road. Came to a full stop. Slowly turned the
RV/ car left as usual and the rocking began! No big holes or ruts at the turn. It continued once around the corner for probably 4-5 big rocks back and forth....BIG rocking movement. Cory stopped immediately and we got out and checked the tires, hitch, reset car and couldn't see anything obvious. All I hope is that it doesn't happen ever again! My hair can't turn anymore gray so it will just take a toll on my heart. Comments about cause appreciated. Sometimes Cory tends to exaggerate some of his tales....other times, he plays down an event. That's what he doing this time......an optimist, a non- worrier, having a blind eye....no stroke or heart attack for him. He's a rascal and I dearly love him.
Rain, Rain, Go Away! I guess it's better than snow but it doesn't let up. It's good Cory decided to cope with driving in the rain or we would all be sitting at home wondering what to do next. At least, these damp travels are getting us all back in touch again. Woo-hoo. Yippee. We have seen many RV's heading south. Honk, Honk is our communication. We have a CB in our RV but
Resting at Rest Stop
Our RV & car...Cory near car. Lulu on step Cory just likes to listen to it. He won't let me chatter on it. "10-4 good buddy!" We have also witnessed many, many "Smoky Bears" (CB talk for police). They have stopped many travelers along our route. The CB'ers keep us alert to up coming "Smokies" even though Cory swears he's not speeding. I can watch his speed on our Tom-Tom GPS and have had to document one speeding session by him in my handwritten journal. He just snorts at me when I do that but if I didn't, who would? Lulu has no hands.
We have finally brought the RV to a stop at a nice motel outside of Statesville, NC. Still raining. It's nice and snugly and warm inside. Lulu is singing a happy tune. We are quite close to Cory in Conover, NC. We shall move on in the morning and check into the LaQuinta in Hickory, NC. We always stay there and throughly enjoy it. They used to have a delicious seafood restaurant attached to this hotel but it has moved down the road somewhere. I know we shall definitely find it while we are here. You are going to love it! We shall see
Gas Prices at LOVE'S
$2.14 diesel - $1.75 gas Cory and the grandchildren tomorrow. We can hardly wait! We see them twice a year if we are lucky. Cory and Shenen came up this past summer which was wonderful. Now we get to see them plus Rachael and Fox. They are all growing up way too fast.
Another day and another blog have come to a close. Hope you aren't too bored yet. We will be spending 4 days here in Conover. You'll like it! Going to try to get de-winterized at Camping World in Statesville, NC when we leave on Saturday. That will allow us to stop at campgrounds on the rest of the way to Florida. Ah....to be back in own bed, again. Remember our mile high bed? I'm just like the Princess and the Pea. We have layer after layer of foam mattresses on it...Love it! The main mattress is a sleep number mattress .....not thrilled with it. Often I would end up sleeping in a hole while Cory was perched up on a high ledge next to me. Much better with all the additional mattresses on it.....very soft and comfy. Our faces are about a foot from the ceiling but we still have breathing
room. Almost need a ladder to get in and out. Cory has a ledge on his side of the floor .....cause of the diesel engine stuff. Me....I have a teenie step on the the side shelf next to the head of the bed. Only a ballet dancer could utilize it to get into the bed. No matter, we manage just fine ......I'm the Princess and Cory is the Pea...just kidding. So probably bedtime is calling you now. No matter how tall, soft, hard, or wide your mattress is....it's yours! That's what we like the most! Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.......our motto for the next few days!! Yawn?????
