South Park in the town of Fairplay

We were on our way to Denver and were told to stop off at Fairplay where there South Park outdoor museum is located... Thanks Velma for the tip!! What a great place, it takes you back to the 19th century when the town here was bustling with folk searching for gold. You can tramp along the wooden walkways , hitch up your horse ( if you have one) to the posts peer into the stagecoach stables, the schoolhouse , the drugstore with its soda fountain , the saloon and imagine what it would be like to live in here. Great stuff ... I love outdoor museums , they give you a feel of what life was like. And it's good to,know that many of the artefacts inside the houses and buildings were donated by local residents.

And now with a current population of about 600 the town of Fairplay is very cute with some restaurants , bars , craft shops and art galleries ..so it was into a local bar for a bowl of bison chilli and a beer for lunch before we cracked on to Denver.

Of course South Park is also know as the animated adult cartoon , and I well remember how my son loved its characters and irreverence. One of creators of the series grew up nearby and based the series around South Park.

Yes we felt like we saw something different every day and we only had one day of torrential rain the whole time. It was all so wonderful .
