This leg of our trip saw us traveling from Vancouver BC, to Bellingham (by Greyhound Bus) and then on to Seattle. Our itinerary Bellingham / Seattle included: 10 Aug - early morning Greyhound Bus to Bellingham, via the commercial customs entrance, afternoon in Bellingham (Fairhave) with aunt and cousins. Late afternoon bus into Seattle and dinner at Antony's Pier 66.11 Aug - Space Needle, Dale Chihuly Glass Museum, Monorail, public bus transport to University of Washington, tour around UW campus, walk from UW to Dicks Burger then down to Gas Works park and over to Fremont for some beer and shopping. Wrapping up the day with a Mariners baseball game (Mariners defeated the Oriels). 12 Aug - Walking tour of Olympic Sculpture Park, waterfront walk, Pike Place Market browsing, shopping, Tillicum Village cruise and First Nations culture presentation.13 Aug - cab ride to Ballard Locks, Ballard locks tour and walk to Fisherman's Terminal, lunch with Jim and Melinda, panicked fear that i lost my passport - happy to discover i had in
fact packed it in my luggage, Amtrak train to Portland (Vancouver, WA)Highlights included: 1. a few more homeless people than vancouver. 2. Ju's first sampling of various American foods - Hostess Twinkies and pies, biscuits and white gravy, local donuts of many varieties, baseball game foods (pretzell, pizza, hotdog, nachos etc...) and Dicks Burger. 3. Mariners baseball game...4. The glass museum was amazing! I can't recommend it highly enough.5. Getting a sunburn walking between UW and Fremont - and the oh so delicious Fremont brewing cold beer that cooled us down.
6. Seeing cousin Alethia and some of the only rain we experienced on the trip.
7. Catching up with Jim and Melinda for a celebration lunch.
8. I was amazed the amount of construction that was going on in and around Seattle - I wish Auckland was as sophisticated with its construction size, type and methodology.
9. Introducing Ju to the wild world of Greyhound bus
transport - our biggest adventure was at the border where we discovered Ju's visa she'd bought for entry into the States only worked at airports - she had to purchase another visa at the "special" counter.
10. Touring lovely Fairhaven with aunt Charolette, Jelena, Sam and the boys - the village has really come into its own with amazing shops and eateries.
11. It was great to visit the UW and show Ju where I went to uni.
I'd wrap up by saying that Seattle scored high on our list of places we'd love to come back and visit in the future - a great mix of work / life balance opportunities.

Twinkes!
Don't tell me you fed that pure English/NZ girl Twinkes? The worst "food" there is straight out of the pit of American capitalism, 200% Chemical Preservatives and sugar. At least now you won't have to embalm her when she passed on from eating American junke food. You 2 had too much fun.
