Day trip to Genoa

"An ancient trading and port city...The birthplace of Christopher Columbus,,,One of the so-called "Industrial Triangle" of Northern Italy (formed by the manufacturer hubs of Milan and Turin and the seaport of Genoa itself). Those are not the only reputation about Genoa, there are much more to see and do in this beautiful city on the Mediterranean coast, Genoa has many Palazzo and Piazza with impressive facade, load of cathedral and church present with wonderful bas-relief, and a lot of world class museum for one to explore, a day trip really not enough to cover all the scene. The main landmark of central Genoa old town is the Piazza De Ferrari centered with a monumental fountain, surrounded by grandiose building from all sides. From there you could started explore the maze of squares and narrow alleys of ancient Genoa, especially around Piazza delle Erbe and Vico di Campopisano are pretty nice. Not far from the Piazza De Ferrari is the city's cathedral, the St. Lawrence Cathedral in Romanesque-Renaissance style, here is where most of the street artists gather. Further into the direction to the port and Piazza Principe, you could ventured into more dark narrow alleys, where inhabited mainly African and Asian, the mood inside those area are a bit frighten like in the gangster movie, prostitute also worked in many corner inside those labyrinth of passages. luckily the open sky of the port is always not too far to reach when it get to scary. and you could see the symbols of the city, the 117 m high Lanterna lighthouse stood on the other side of the port. The World Heritage quarter in the old town is in Strada Nuova (now Via Garibaldi), with many grand 16th century buildings from the most eminent families of the old day, including Palazzo Rosso (now a museum), Palazzo Bianco, Palazzo Grimaldi and Palazzo Reale. For a leisure walk you can try the promenade Corso Italia, all along the coast until you reach the pretty old fishing village Boccadasse, with its multicolour houses pitched on a small hill by the seaside, now a trendy place for dining out inside the tiny alley within. The Genoa specialty is focaccia, a pizza without cheese, tomato or any burden. and the farinata, a salty thin pizza like a pencake make from chick-pea, both are very tasty! you could almost find it in every bakery and cafeteria in town.

the Aquarium in the Old Harbour(the Porto Antico) - the biggest in Italy and one of the major in Europe - and its Marina

St. Lawrence Cathedral is the city's cathedral, built in a Romanesque-Renaissance style.

Strada Nuova (now Via Garibaldi), in the old city, was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2006. This district was designed in the mid-16th century to accommodate Mannerist palaces of the city's most eminent families, includingPalazzo Rosso (now a museum), Palazzo Bianco, Palazzo Grimaldi andPalazzo Reale. Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Rosso are also known as Musei di Strada Nuova.

I love Genoa and had to stay a week so I could see everything. A bit crazy with the port, but what beautiful churches, plazas and palacios! Thanks!
