We left Vancover and set off for Banff, although it's 950km so we couldn't do it all in one day... After 7 hours of driving we arrived at Revelstoke where we stayed overnight. The next day we drove to Banff passing Lake Louise, a brilliantly torquoise coloured lake with a glacier on the mountain behind.
The following day we walked up Sulphur mountain, over 7,500ft. There was a cable car to get to the top so when we got there, there were loads of fat American tourists in sandals! We saw some mountain goats, our first wild Canadian wildlife, but did not run into any bears on the trail. We then climbed up a neighbouring peak and away from the tourists where we practised a little rock climbing.
That night we went out with some people from the hostel and ended up in a club, our first in N. America. The following day we drove up to Jasper National Park to the Columbia Icefield and walked on the Athabasca glacier which was pretty cool in more than one way! Even though it was made of solid ice it was more slippery then I expected. I somehow managed not to
fall over and the way down and keep my balance.
After we walked up to Parker's Ridge as a guy we met said you can get good views of the glaciers from there. We weren't disappointed and got to see a huge glacier over the other side of the ridge.
The day after we went bear hunting in a nearby valley. Hang on, when I say bear hunting I actually mean 'looking for bears'... We had been told a good place where we might see them. I'm not sure whether we really wanted to see any though! We saw signs warning us that it was berry season and the bears are more active right now becuase of this. First we found the berries and then found a tree which had bear claw marks on, then.... nothing! We saw no bears. However we did see an elk later in the day, where? You guessed it, by the side of the road!
We left the next day to go to Calagary so I'll stop the entry here!

Bears!
Shame you didn't get to see any bears, maybe that's as well though as they may have seen you first! Mum
