Today we finally got to pick up Ania, but we had to wait a while. We did not do much in the morning, so we waited, and waited, and waited. Ding Ding 3:00 o'clock time to pick up Ania. We went to the airport but Ania's plane was not there yet so we picked up the car. I was so excited when I saw Ania. We drove back to the hostel to drop off her luggage.
We took the metro to the
Prado Museum . It was a very, very, very long line for the free tickets so for a little cost we went to the front of the line and paid. The museum was really beautiful. We saw a lot of Picassos, Goyas, and 1 of my favorite, Leonardo da Vinci's student's Mona Lisa. My favorite were the Picassos and some of the sculptures. It was a very, very big museum with a lot to see. We saw a lot in less than 2 hours. Then right next to the museum there was a little church that we went to.
For dinner, we got cheese and bread and ate at the hostel and played Monopoly. Ania won by a
lot. Then we went to bed.
Today was a very big day. First we walked to the
Royal Palace. The palace was very beautiful inside. There was a lot of gold and paintings and different color rooms. There were rooms with different Roman and Greek gods. There was Neptune, Hercules, and Zeus. The furniture was very pretty. Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses liver there back then. One of my favorite rooms was the throne room. It had the real throne chairs that the actual queen and king sat on!
Throughout the whole trip I was needing boots. So we bought them while Ania went shopping for her stuff.
Next was the best part of Madrid. We told Ania that we had to meet Ana and her family in the middle of
Plaza Mayor at 5:00pm. She knew that I would be spending the night there while her and daddy would have a night out, but she did know "everything" Mmwwaahh haa hhaaa. My dad said that he had to go to "the bathroom" but it was all part of the plan. There are many cool things t Plaza Mayor. People did cool stuff to get money. Ania was looking
at one of them. I told her that she needed to come to a certain place in the square that my dad wanted her to be. I saw Ana's family at the plaza but I did not say hello. Then my dad came back.
There was a chair that was placed near Ania by Javier (the waiter) When my dad came back, he asked Ania to sit in the chair. He then asked me for the flower which I gave to him to give to Ania. My dad said what he wanted to say and then asked Ania to marry him. Ania faced me and said, "should I?" (silly girl) I shook my head yes and she said yes. My dad gave her the ring and her reaction was priceless. Pablo and Nacho were taking pictures and video during the whole time. (Ania had thought they were just tourists) Then Ana, Maite and I threw rose petals on them. Then Javier came out with 2 glasses of champagne. We were all very, very happy. It was a great celebration! We sat at the restaurant on Plaza Mayor and had a great time and it was very special.
I
then left with Ana and her family to sleep over at their house. We went to a bar to watch Barcelona play Real Madrid - El Classico. I was the only Barcelona fan because, well, I was in Madrid and no one would be cheering for Barcelona. Barcelona won 2:1 Yay!
The next morning I had to say good bye to Pablo and Ana. They were going off to school. Maite took me on the metro to meet my dad. My dad and Ania said they had a great night together. We then left Madrid.
Daddy's Comments: Wow, what can I say. Proposing to Ania (and her saying yes) in Plaza Mayor with Sofia being a part of it was so special that I cannot put it into words. It was magical. A special thanks to Pablo, Ana, Maite and Nacho (as well as Javier the waiter) for making the day perfect, capturing the moment on film/video, and celebrating with us afterwards (as well as taking Sofia for us to have a night out on the town).
