The park by our hostel
I'm writing at 10.13 on the 11th of March. I'm sure I'll stop posting with such frequency as we settle into the trip and I realise just how boring I'm being by relaying every moment of each day in glorious details, but at the moment it seems we do so much each day that if I was to leave recording it for a few days I'd have far too much to write about in one post. So we got up this morning at around 8am, which was about 12 noon with the time delay. I popped up to the local deli to buy some bread, butter and jam so we could have toast in our rusty little kitchen - then Rosie, Matt and I started the 5 month training plan that I'd written. I think it went down well but it's running tomorrow so we'll see if everyone is still participating after that. Personally I'm determined to keep my fitness up. After a shower we walked out of Brooklyn, over Manhattan bridge and to Lower Manhattan. The bridge in itself must have taken 30+ minutes to walk across, and once over we were in Chinatown. We made our way through Chinatown,

picking up the first of many Starbucks on the way, then headed up Broadway - just getting used to the sights, sounds and smells of the city. We next stopped off at a Pret a Manger to mercilessly abuse their free wifi for a full 2 hours - updating profiles, posting photos and contacting family. We'd had trouble connecting to the internet in the hostel that morning so there was a lot to be done. Once we'd been able to detach ourselves from our phones and tablets we continued up Broadway, eventually making it to the bottom of the Empire State, to which Rosie flippantly remarked 'is that it? I thought it'd be more impressive'. At that point we decided to turn around. Heading back down Broadway we grabbed a huge pasta bake to take home for dinner and a slice of pizza for the road, then made our way home in the rain via the local 'Red Apple' to grab some food for the morning and have spent the rest of the evening, from 7pm onwards, sitting around our dining table chatting, blogging (we managed to find some wifi), writing in diaries and eating. Oh, and of course, unclogging
