I had been to Catalunya a few times before, staying with my girlfriend at the time in Barcelona but I didn’t really appreciate that it was more than just a province of Spain. Having spent more time living and working there my opinion has changed somewhat and I now think Catalunyans are fully justified in wanting independence. It has its own language, flag, the standard of living was considerably higher than the majority of Spain and more than anything there seems to be a big call for it from the people.

I lived in Calella de Palafrugell, a beautiful little beach town on the Costa Brava, from where I was based to look after 5 different walking and cycling holidays for Headwater. It was the same job I did last summer in France, basically moving luggage, generally looking after customers and transferring them to the train station. At the bottom of this blog post you can see a couple of videos I made about the holidays.

I fell in love with Catalunya during my time here. The general standard of food was high, the countryside I observed on a daily basis was spectacular, there’s a history going back 1000’s of years and the people were my kind of people, I really can’t think of anything bad about my time there.

I had many visitors who were all equally amazed by what was on offer and with 2 of those visitors I went on a 10 day tour through the Pyrennes to video megalithic monuments (the film I made is below).

I wrapped up the season at the end of October 2014, leaving somewhere that made me feel at home and somewhere I wish to return to live in the future. After a few weeks in the U.K I went on a backpacking trip in Southern Africa to visit another 5 countries.

Seeing Catalunya as a separate country I had to eat Corn Flakes to make it my 70th country, which I did with Calella in the background (the film is below).
