Hostel Popol Vuh
Just where we hang out when the sun is too much. Also to eat. As the title eludes to, we have once again started travelling. This time with no intention of working on the road, but leaving the option open in case a wonderful opportunity presents itself. For those of you that we didn't have a chance to meet up with before we left, sorry about that. There just never seems to be enough time to get everything done right.
We've begun in Central America, since we wanted somewhere warm, and with Ashley's studies having been about Latin America we figured it was about time she got to see more of it. We plan to see many ruins and beaches and take our time wherever desirable. We started our travels with a holiday in Playa Del Carmen since it seemed well traveled and we wouldn't have to work too hard at figuring anything out. From here we plan on touring around this southern part of Mexico and wind our way down into more of Central America; Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras (for Scuba lessons), Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. We might not make it to all of them depending on how much time we spend in each place.
We plan on hitting Europe
sometime in the summer; maybe heading that way around the end of June and trying to find a house sitting gig in Spain for July. Then a family reunion in Germany for the beginning of August. Following that, maybe Turkey to see where East meets West; or down to Africa for a 54 day camping tour that takes us from South Africa to Kenya, hitting 8 country's on the way.
That might put us in South Eastern Asia sometime in October/November...ish. We're hoping to do some trekking in Nepal, maybe see somethings in India. Try to hit up Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, maybe the Philippines and Papua New Guinea, on the way to Australia and New Zealand. Might backtrack to some of those places if we're in Australia/NZ for an extended time.
Then the hope is to hit Easter Island on the way to Chile as our point of entry into South America hitting as many countries there as the pocket book allows. When we get to this point we figure any kind of guess at a timeline will be utterly hopeless. We figure a year to hit the places we want won't be enough,
but last time two years was plenty; somewhere in the middle should work well for us.
We're also working on a couple challenges that should helps us keep everything from this trip recorded:
• Ashley is working out her new camera with trying to get a picture a day
• Dan is trying to record a sentence a day in his journal
We've got a
SPOT share page that we should be updating every time we're spending a night in a new place, or doing something awesome. It won't have much detail and only shows the last 7 days as far as we can tell, but contact us if you want the password.
