One full month without a single plane ride...and spending most of these last 2 months in Thailand. I may have stopped to jump continents (for now), I still love to live in Thailand. There is something pretty weird for me about living in Bangkok. Once at home, I do feel like on holidays. I have lived in Asia for over 18 years...but while living in Saigon, Hong Kong or Shanghai I never had the feeling that being at home, felt like being on holidays. Well in Bangkok, I do fell like this, and put it simply, it feels good!
The next good news, is that I still have a lot to discover just next to where I live. I know, I tend to have a pretty positive attitude to life in general. But over the last few weeks, I did few things I had wanted to do for a while....few things I did not even know existed next door, and I re-visited few classics...
So here are the pictures of the last few weeks....well actually, just some of them. Tiffany and Leslie do enjoy their rugby practice every Sunday morning, and I love going to
see them playing whenever I can in Bangkok. We also spent a full Saturday exploring the green lung of Bangkok. Funny to think that after living a total of 4 years in Bangkok, I had never bicycled Bang Ka Chao. The place is first just a simple taxi ride less than 20 minutes from home. Than you cross the Chao Praya on a small boat (10 bahts one way)....and you are in another world.
We rented bicycles for the day. A decent bicycle is 3usd for a full day....nothing. Sadly, I cannot let the kids ride bicycles in Bangkok, it would simply be way too dangerous. Not that I don't trust their skills....it's just the way cars are going around in the city. No way! But here, there are little paths, simple local roads...and you can easily bicycle the all day. Amazing! We stopped for lunch by the river at Bangkok Tree House....average expensive place for food, next time we will try the new place who just opened next door. The area is beautiful, with even some little patches of jungle. We stopped by few temples, a floating market...that doesn't have much of the floating aspect left....and
we cycle a lot....great day! And we will do this again pretty soon!
Few days ago I also made my way during the week to Koh Si Chang, this is the closest island from Bangkok in the Gulf of Thailand. You take a 2 hours bus to Sri Racha, than a short tuk tuk ride to the pier before a 45 minutes boat ride to the island. There seems to be only one beach on the island. That's by far not the best beach I've seen in Thailand....but the water is clear, and the food on the beach was really nice....yammie seafood! Great day out of Bangkok, and yes, a first for me.
Next, there is the usual classics where I hadn't been for a while, I name Jim Thompson House....always amazing place to visit, as well as the Royal Grand Palace and Wat Pho...even with the crowds, these places are pretty amazing!
Finally, there is the nightlife in Bangkok. Over the last few years, I'm either enjoying too much my little family life at home, or maybe I'm a little too much on the road, or I simply grow older,
but it's a fact, my nightlife partying is on the way down rather than on the way up. Till, from time to time, it's good to have some great evenings...and there were few of them all over the roofs of Bangkok...let it be at Above Eleven (my favorite by far), Vertigo, or at the Lebua or Octave (great sunset and happy hour). And let's not forget a very nice evening and a first for me, a great way to discover Bangkok by night, I name the dinner cruise on the Apsara, run by the Banyan Tree....a very special evening indeed!
Next stop....well, it's back on the road for me, and even the kids will hit the road over the next few weeks....to few places we've been, and few more places we are discovering for the first time. Because as usual, life is way more fun one you discover new things every day, one day at a time...
And yes, we love our little place in Bangkok!
