I stopped at my local fruit stand today. The supermarket nearest to me doesn't have a lot of variety and I really wanted something besides apples and oranges. From a distance I knew I would not be disappointed.

A chatty woman who helped me showed me the mangos. In the US, there's only one kind for sale usually, and it's red and green. Since moving to Asia I've discovered there's yellow mangos. Now I know that Malaysia has three types of mangos. Probably more. But she sells three kinds.

She showed them to me and told me their names. (Which I didn't write down, of course.) And how they're each a little different. And how I should try one of each to see what I like best. I think that was the most easily I've been persuaded to try anything in a long time.

I took them home and tried one each night. I started with the expensive one. It was my favorite, reminding me of mangos I ate in Thailand and China. Perfection. The second night I tried the other yellow one and it was pretty good too. I had the green one the third night and found it a little tart for my liking. With all, I found that a bit of coconut milk on the side is a nice touch.

I went back the next week to buy more, but here sister helped me instead. Her sister doesn't speak English, so I just pointed at mango #2, paid, and went home to enjoy.

My favorite. It didn't need anything else.

Also pretty good. I added rice and coconut milk, a la Thai mango and sticky rice. Not quite the same, but close.

A bit too sour for my liking. Not bad, though.

Mangos
I found the green ones grew on me after a while. Good with chilli salt if you can get that.

Green ones
Yep, I've had that. Not a fan. I'll stick with the sweeter ones!
