Hi travel followers.
Thought it was time for another update on where we are and what we have been up to. From Karratha we moved on to Exmouth (545km) for a few days via a couple of Roadhouses on the way. There was basically nothing in between except for the two roadhouses and a few cattle stations, but we are starting to see wild flowers in greater numbers which is wetting out appetite for what is to come further down the coast.
Exmouth is on the tip of the Western Australian north western peninsula and it's main claim to fame is the Ningaloo Reef just off the coast. In fact the reef is so close to the coast, one can walk out and snorkel straight off the beach in the Cape Range National Park. We took great advantage of this while we were there and practiced our snorkelling a number of times.
I must say the volume of fish and the huge variety of them was astounding. I was especially impressed by the Giant Potato Cod just marking time under the edge of the reef as I swam over. He was almost as big as I was and
didn't seem to take any notice of the 1.5m White Tip Reef Shark swimming just around the corner which scared the bejesus out of me.
The water (22C) and air (27C) temperatures are fantastic and it is hard not take good advantage of what is on offer. Other than the reef and snorkelling, we spent a couple of days just exploring the National Park and the coast line around Exmouth including the Lighthouse.
Hope you like the photos. Sorry there is no underwater shots as we don't have a water proof camera. Pity as these would have made the best photos.
Enjoy.
