Braunschweig train station 8am June 24 2014
I guess we have finally started to travel. We have had an amazing weekend with Clive and Fiona and Oliva in Antwerp. We really enjoyed the pool in their garden and catching up after 10 years. Then we started our first night bus trip.
It finally left Antwerp at 12.20am being en route from Paris to Berlin. We had the joy of being surrounded by a group of Flemish guys with no intention of sleeping who talked through the night much to the annoyance of all other passengers. I did get some sleep and woken as one of them was just starting his morning Pils - you get the picture. So Jane did not sleep at all and consequently is finding it hard to smile. We are now heading for the Quedlinburg by train. We had tried to go by car share using the mitfahrgelegenheit.de website and unfortunately when Fiona spoke to our lady driver she had had to pull out because she had hurt her leg.
We had the pleasure of joining a family party with Clive and Fiona's neighbours. We met an interesting
bunch of high achievers. Our host Bob was an anaesthetist so I could not help myself talking about Sevoforane. Apparently the way you dose children meets some Sevo escapes into the theatre and he claimed to be getting immune to it! One pair of family members arrived on a new tandem, a retirement present from their sons. What a good idea.
Clive and Fiona gave us a great send off. Fiona had pack us a food parcel and calculated it was 11605.34 miles to Wellington New Zealand. So we had our 'starting' picture taken and the whole family came to see us off at the bus station. At midnight it had all the characteristics of a city bus station - ladies of the night slinking off with clients and the occasional waft of marjuana smoke from presumably our delightful fellow passengers.
