Looking out to the Atlantic
We have spent the last two days orienting ourselves to Albufeira. It is a busy, crowded resort town similar to Cabo or Cancun. The majority of people here are English (from the United Kingdom), Irish, and German. People are quite surprised and pleased when they find out we are from the U.S.

We thought we would see some real Portuguese life by going into "old town". That area was every bit as crowded as the beach area. So we decided to take the advice of a guy we met by the pool and rented a car. We will tour the coast and some inland areas in the next couple of days.

After dinner, which by the way the food here is delicious. Jerry had a dish called chicken piri piri. The recipe is online. I will be trying that when we get home. So as I was saying, after dinner we were in our room when the phone rang. That in itself was surprising. It was the guy from the pool, Chris. He wanted to show us on the map several of his favorite places to drive to. To find us he asked at the desk for the two Americans who had just arrived two days ago. They immediately knew who we were. Now we haven't done anything outrageous, it is just that in all these people we are the only Americans!

Chris has been coming here to this resort for 23 years. He has explored the whole area and pointed out several places of interest for us to visit. We will be busy the next few days.

We are continually surprised at how helpful people have been to us. The people on the cruise ship, people on the bus, the bus drivers, Jose the taxi driver, and now Chris from England.

Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring
