Aside from the mall, the market is another great place to watch locals go about their lives. So I went to Granville Island. I'm not sure if that really is a market but I heard locals love that place. Being that its in Canada of course it had to be indoors where they can set up a heater system. Which looks exactly like a centralized AC only that its blowing hot air. I'm not sure if that also functions as their AC during summer or if they use AC at all when its hot. I have so many questions that I forget to ask when I'm talking with someone.
Granville Island is also not an island but it is by the bay. Lots of stalls there selling ready to eat food, fruits and veggies, flowers, seafood and meat. Even paintings! Why would any artist want to sell art in the market? But then again artists don't think like regular people that's why I love them. Greenville Island is like a market/street fair only its indoors and it doesn't smell. Even the stalls selling meat don't smell.
The produce here are huge. They have the biggest strawberries I've ever seen!
Although those strawberries are not as sweet and flavorful as the small strawberries we have back home. Their grapes are huge, the peppers are huge and shiny like plastic. Even the apples look like plastic because they're so big and shiny. I wonder if its the weather of the chemicals that they use that make the produce much bigger here than they are in the Philippines. GMO? They have locally grown produce but since its winter many of the produce available right now are imported. I've been told. Not sure how true it is.
I had a Perogi. It's a famous dish here in Canada. It's mashed potatoes with sour cream and caramelized onion. It's alright. I like cheese better on my mashed potatoes. I have to try poutin. Not sure if that's how its spelled or if its vegetarian. I didn't see any in the market or maybe I saw and didn't recognize it. They have fruits and vegetables that I did not recognize. Like the red vegetable with leaves. The best way that I can describe it is that its a red and more rounded carrot. There's also a round fruit sitting next to the berries. Its
golden yellow orangy and shiny. Didn't try it because it looks a lot like the poisonous fruit I know from home but I tried the blackberries. They're okay. They said during spring blackberries grow by the sidewalk and you can grab buckets full.
I had the most amazing baked mushrooms ever! They said its button mushrooms but the only button mushrooms that I know are canned variety that are found in pizza in the Philippines. I think those are different because the ones I had here were huge and fresh. Definitely not canned. Its baked with some cheese on where the stem used to be. I also tasted olive oil and pepper. So simple yet so amazing! I have to find those mushrooms and cook that dish when I go home. I'm not sure if I can bring produce to the Philippines. They're like bio-hazards or something. If I could bring produce I'd fill my suitcase with it and show everybody. Like the 10 or 12 Israelite men from the Bible who went to Promised Land and brought grapes back home so they can show their people how big the grapes are in Promised Land. The photos will have
Perogi
Canadians love this. I would add cheese. to do. I take pictures of the simplest things. Like the bus that works like a tram because it has a thing on top that connects it to electricity. But its really just a regular bus. The same that I see on the road without that thing on top.
I was so full after the perogi, cherry tomatoes & cheese and that eggplant & cheese thing. If this place were in the Philippines there would be a live band playing music. Now I'm not sure if I'd like that.

Hiya, I am loving reading your blogs and your view on everything. The red vegetable is a radish which is sort of similar to onion. You often have it sliced thinly in salad. The orange things are a variety of cherry tomatoes. So just a small tomotoe :) Tam
