We love seeing the places we visit from the water. Following that desire, we booked aboard "Le Barge" for a Sunset Cruise out of Island Park marina near Marina Jack's in Sarasota. We called for reservations, donned our Florida party casual, and stood in line to board! Many of our fellow passengers started their part early with coffee cups filled with libations other than coffee so everyone's festive mood helped make the wait go fast.

Le Barge was all tricked out and gaudy with live palm trees and mirrored mosaic mermaids. We boarded and headed top side where Dan Crawford and his guitar were tuning up in the bow. We had considered the more sedate Marina Jack II cruise with its highly acclaimed buffet, but Le Barge just seemed like more fun. It has an open top deck, the better to see the sunset, and seemed to promise a "booze cruise" atmosphere. Le Barge delivered! Great views, great rum drinks, and dancing on the deck. We could have ordered foods, but limited our intake to libations!

Our course took us out into Sarasota Bay and into some attractive canal neighborhoods. Just as the sun was dipping away; we veered along Key Largo and briefly into the Gulf. The sunset was magnificent. At dark strings of overhead twinkle lights made dancing on the deck even more fun. We met some interesting people - Paulette who told Wes she would NEVER travel without a concealed weapon (you can just bet how much I have in common with her, but she seemed so nice) and Mike White, a local artist and good dancer - he loves short women - lucky me!

After the cruise we ordered burgers at the tiki bar at nearby O'Leary's after the cruise. That was a great choice as some of our fellow-partiers from the cruise shared the same notion. Party On!

Le Barge and Marina Jack II both offer lunch cruises. Le Barge promises a free ride if you don't see dolphin's on their dolphin cruise.

I've written about O'Leary's and Jack's in previous blogs. City Island is a great sunset spot with or without the cruise and drinks!

Downtown Sarasota sparkled from the water, especially after dark as we returned to Le Barge's berth. We highly recommend Le Barge. This is one of those attractions that deserves return visits. We paid $28 each. We gave our $1 off coupon to Paulette!

That item below the palm tree would be a Mermaid's tail!
