Up for an early morning swim. We checked our bags in with the concierge then grabbed a couple of taxis out the front of the hotel to take us over the other side of the island (SGD27-30) to the zoo.
Breakfast was a buffet. A quick diversion to feed some elephants who literally purred with appreciation. As breakfast continued a few of the zoos orangutans chose to visit - they have a fairly large area in which to roam and this cafe is part of that so as fruit and seeds are provided they come across and deign to sit around whilst the silly humans gawk at and photograph them.
The zoo as a whole has fairly large and well maintained enclosures and we spent a few hours there. As luck would have it the flashest Merc van in Singapore happened to be hanging around out the front to chauffeur us back to Marina Bay Sands (SGD50).
Grabbed the bags for a quick change so Tash and I could head to Raffles for a Gin Sling (OMG SGD31 each) whilst the boys checked a few travel options and went for a wander.
We had a moment of
panic on the Circle Line when Nic was left on a platform as the rest of us pulled away :o
Following significant debate and a few plan changes due to repeated advice on the difficulty of exiting Singapore for Malaysia on a Friday afternoon we returned to our original plan and caught the train to Woodlands (SGD2.40).
From Woodlands we caught the bus with all the Malay workers returning home for the weekend (SGD1.30). This is a really cheap option and we had no dramas but if you are not the type to ask random strangers for help (with no shame for looking lost and not speaking the language) or are not comfortable in crowded lines, this may not be ideal. Of course Wayne loves chatting to anyone anywhere and people were really helpful, mostly because they were either amused or alarmed by a group of clueless Aussies.
The transit terminal was an easy walk from our hotel - AmanSari Hotel City Centre.
