A Weekend at Edale: Walking, Caving and a Pint or two

Hey guys,

Well we have just had another weekend away, this time in the company of Ben's cousin Kristy and her boyfriend matty in the Peak District.

We stayed in the town of Edale, nestled in the picture-esk country side of the Edale Valley. The weekend involved a walk around the surrounding area, with views across the valley.

From Crab Apple trees to big black slugs there was plenty to interest; and by the end of the saturday we were ready for a couple of Ales and a hot meal at the old Nag's Head, a comfortable pub not far from the campsite where we stayed. A serious game of 500 rounded out the night, with some local Real Ale's to accompany. They had their own Nag's Head Ale, but I found an ale from Manchester called Grey's to be really nice.

On the Sunday we went down and took a tour through the Devil's Arse - A large cave with a long history. It has been named this rather pleasant description due to the sound that comes from its bowels, when a heavy rainfall flows through the depths of its cavities. The cave has the largest

opening in Britian, and its caverns are actually used for all sorts of events, from a meeting of witches to christmas carols with the local Brass Band (2 very similar events).

Staying at the camping park gave quite an insight into the British way of live - There was at least two dogs to every tent / settlement, and a football made for compsulory entertainment. It seems that they don't get much sunny weather over here... so I guess they have to make the most of it.

We had the oldest car there, and probably the most basic equipment - the guys staying next to us had DVD screens fitted into the back of the car! They've been around for a while I know, but it's just a bit too much for us!!

We hope to get back to the Peak District soon, it's really quite close to Manchester (Only an hour or so away in a normal car) to do some bike riding or some more walks, or maybe even a witch gathering or chrissy carols (might have to buy a broom). Anyway hope everyone is well,

Ben & Stace
