There are several caravan parks in Broome, and they are all full, as well as the Pistol Club, Church and the PCYC. Broome is packed out with tourists and caravanners like us, and I can see why. It’s a great place to be. We are at The Mangrove Hotel on the balcony and we have again met up with our fossickers! They have been down at Port Smith catching crabs, but the weather has been too windy to get out in the boat.

We meet up out at the Port of Broome which has a huge wharf, and we all have a walk along this very high structure. A couple of boys are out there fishing, this jetty is so high, that if they get a big fish, they cannot get it up to the platform. A pearling tug comes in towing a flotilla of oyster barges, it makes a beautiful sight on a perfect day in Broome.

We are all together for dinner and drinks. As a huge RED moon rises up from the horizon, a ghostly didgeridoo plays a haunting chant that sends shivers down your spine. As it rises the light falls between the corrugations of the mudflats, and there is The Stairway. Very hard to get a good shot with just a hand held camera, but you will get an impression of what it was like.

We then do a tour of China Town at night, there are no shops open, but it’s interesting to see all the little streets and corrugated buildings which are the shops. Outside the picture theatre, the oldest running outdoor theatre in Australia, we peruse the movies for which one we will see this week, then it’s time to go home.

We do it all again next day, and going through the shopping district and looking at all the beautiful pearls is great. No,I didn’t buy a pearl! With the thousands of dollar price tags it was purely window shopping. We go up Johnny Chi Lane, we see Betty’s Dress Shop, it's a pleasure to see so many shops again. It’s a great place to be with all the nationalities, the heat, and,the traffic; pedestrians have to give way to cars!

At the market at night we again see the Staircase, from the town beach, along with about five thousand people! And it all happens again, it’s a bit better actually as the tide has come in a bit more and the stairs are better It’s a great atmosphere, and lots to see at the market, with lots of different food and entertainers.

Then it’s on to the movies. We see Satellite Boy, where we leave a few tears on the seat at the end. As we sit there in our seats, a huge jet roars over the theatre, just above the big screen, frightens the life out of us all, the airport is right near the town. No, we are not being invaded, just a jet taking off.

Cable Beach is the nicest one in WA I think, and we go there with our New Friends. We have bumped into one another all along the coast Have you heard about that one big wave they get in WA? Well it came along while we were all in the water, dragging down tops and bottoms! We all laughed like a bunch of schoolkids and retired for lunch after a walk along the beach.

On the last night in Broome, we rushed out to see Cable Beach at sunset. It’s a beautiful sight to see the sun going down on the Broome camels, four wheel drives, and hundreds of people all watching on. Great place to visit and have a lovely time.

We live in a beautiful country.
