Today we headed east towards Michigan. We decided to stay close to Lake Superior for as long as possible. We found this lake to be very tranquil and beautiful. Theo had wanted a Lake Superior agate and could not find one. We stopped at a visitor center in Marquette, MI and the person manning the desk gave Theo an agate and told us to go right outside to lake and check there. Of course we headed out and found a whole lot of agates, which we loaded up and are bringing home. Our next stop was St. Ignance. This town is where you stay to ferry out to Mackinac Island. On the island there are no motorized vehicles allowed. I went many years ago with my parent’s right after I was married. It was a beautiful island with very scenic views and great food.
We followed the northern scenic route and then dropped down onto Lake Michigan. WOW! What a beautiful lake. We came into St Ignance and checked into our hotel. We had a Lakeview room overlooking Mackinac Island. The kids decided to walk out into Lake Huron and found that it was a muddy, mucky mess! Megan lost
her good flip flop and Mason ended up soaked (what is new)! We decided it was time to head to Lake Michigan and let the kids swim in the lake. We found a nice spot on the beach..yes I said beach....and let the kids swim. They had a blast! We were there for about an hour or so and then headed back for the night and stopped off for dinner at The Galley restaurant. Megan and Theo had a local favourite called the Pastie. It is basically a Swedish Meat Pie smothered in gravy. They thought it was good, but like the chowder better. We had to turn in early and get a good night’s rest for we have a long day tomorrow!!!
